Please READ: Denver Stricter on Pot--New Regulations

Does a grower really need to grow for more than five cards? I kinda agree with the dispensary owner quoted at the bottom of the article.

Dispensary owner Miles Zalkin says the city's new rules mean legitimate operations, that help patients suffering from cancer, will stay in business.
"We're hoping that these types of deterrents will take people that shouldn't be in this business that are in it and knock them out when they go to apply for their license, which all of us are going to have to apply for," Zalkin said.

Here in Oregon, we are pushing for dispensaries (through initiative 28 ) and each patient/grower can grow for 5 cards. Thirty plants in bloom can produce 120 oz/2mo or 60 oz/mo -- that's 3.75 POUNDS/month. I really don't think there is a patient out there that is smoking 3/4 # per month.

Whether or not MJ should be legalized is not the point. Yes, they should allow us to grow as much as we want. BUT .. they're not going to and I think we should be happy with what we are allowed to grow.

Mary- so how would this affect each dispensary? What would this mean? Each dispensary now has to have 10+ caregivers working under them as employees so they can keep moving enough product to be profitable or that the whole idea is to make dispensaries NOT profitable?

The latter seems like the idea.

IMHO - Medical Marijuana was approved to help patients - not to give dispensaries an unlimited income.

Charging a patient in need $400 or more for an ounce of medicine is not helping the patients.

How many can afford $1200 to $1600 per month for medicine?

The bottom line is: medical marijuana is for patients in need, and not for a source of income for dispensaries

Much of what is happening in Colorado is in response to patient concerns over the path medical marijuana is taking.

My how Liberal of you. What was I thinking that someone should actually be able to turn a profit for growing the best medicine on earth and providing it to patients.

$150oz is definately around the price point people should be able to buy some good medicine.

Luciius,

Funny - if it is the "big bad drug or oil companies" making obscene profits it is a problem, but for MMJ dispensaries it is OK?

How many other retailers have similar mark-up percentages?

Taking advantage of someone in need for your financial gain is no more right for you than it is for any other business.

SO the slimeball Romer is STILL trying to push parts of his other agenda through... albeit with support from a another sentator (Massey -R). Guess he can't take the heat from his own democratic voters for his stupidity, can he? Then GET OUT of the kitchen. The language in this 'revised' bill he is trying to push basically SHUTS DOWN dispensaries as you can only be 'caregiver for 5 people'. Many (if not most) dispensaries have hundreds. I smell lawsuits and voter outrage brewing yet again. Time to fire ALOT of our appointed officials, they dropped the ball...yet again!

There is so much wrong with what you just said I really don't know where to begin nor do I think I should. Lets just say comparing Custom grown Marijuana to something that Big Pharma has is silly. Their profit margins are incalculable! Same with Oil.

Let me ask you this, do you have a Cellular phone? I assume so. Do you have an issue paying $60-100 a month for your service? How about .49 cents for a text? That's fair but allowing someone who has slaved over a plant for 3 months so that it would be the quality you need to help to ease YOUR ailment, well, thats just WRONG somehow?

I think not. Welcome to america. We are capitalists here until the government takes that from us as well. Which is slowly happening.

best,

Lucius

Looks like Dr. Reefer(P. Werner) is out of town since he a convicted felon in the last 5 years. If I can only have a dispensary and help 5 people then so be it!!!----I will help 5 to the best of my capabilities---might have to find a location with very cheap rent but I will do it...

I live in Denver and have a MMJ card. Should the dispensaries be regulated? Absolutely, just like the pharmacies are. Its about quality meds being made available to the public, after all. If we're really doing it for medical reasons though, why are we going through dispensaries (aka growers/dealers) to get medication. A lot of the medications we take today or derived from plants but we aren't smoking them or buying them from unknown local dealers. I live in a residential area and there is a dispensary on my block. There is also a school on my block. There is also a pharmacy on my block. The dispensary (run by an acquaintance of mine) will be forced to move though. For the business owner, that's a horrible scenario. Especially since he is very "by the books" and everyone gets carded and all of his inventory is kept track of. I'm sure its just a sign of the times and is just another tribulation that must be suffered in order to even have the opportunity to buy/sell/grow legal pot but its incredibly unfair. I'm not saying "don't regulate the dispensaries" because they clearly need it. As patients WE clearly need it. Dispensaries aren't selling pot to kids at/near schools/daycares and pharmacies sell far worse drugs within those same limits to people with the less credentials (a script instead of a license) but are seen as a boon instead of a bane. If we're doing it for medical purposes then treat it like medicine but what we have now are legal unregulated pot dealers and they really are literally sprouting up on EVERY farking corner in the city. Most of them have shit inventory with nappy looking buds that weren't cured/cultivated right. There are no safeguards in place either. Its ridiculous from a patient's perspective. Basically, im all for regulation but don't make arbitrary demands of businesses as a means to push your agenda. If you want to be taken seriously and you have a legitimate concern/request then use a legitimate argument and remember to play fair =)

Good points---I think It could be done in-house but it would take a certain number of plants grown--- on a perpetual cycle to ensure quality and quantity. every one on here could argue what medicinal quality standards would or should be. I think most would agree on zero chemical pesticides. but other than that it's been a "I believe medicinal MJ is..." up for interpretation.
