has any1 used the atami wilma hydro system? if so how many times a day do i turn pump on and how long for.plz help
Hi, I use a Wilma system. Before I begin lets get something clear from the start. I'm a new grower but I currently have a successful grow with healthy plants. Here's what I think....
Firstly the amount you feed them largely depends on the medium that you are growing in. From what I see, you are growing in that pebble stuff... As far as I know that medium is much better suited to a flood & drain type system rather than a dripper system like the Wilma. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not possible but I imagine that if you're going to use a dripper system, then it would take an expert to get it right.
. the reason i say this is because that medium doesn't really retain any water, so you need to flood it... then drain it away again. Pretty hard to do with a dripper system.
Ok... This is what I would recommend you do, but I don't think you're gonna like it! Get yourself a medium that retains water like coco choir (its made from coconut husks) or even soil! Then remove those blue drippers that you have & put the black drippers in. The blue drippers simply flood... the black drippers actually "drip"!
Replant your plants in the new medium. Put a timer on the pump for the Wilma system and set the timer to switch on 3 times a day for 15 mins only! You can increase the number of times it comes on per day if you like, but start with 3 and monitor it by checking the moisture levels in the growing medium. If it's wet every time you check it during the day then reduce the number of times the pump switches on, if its dry, then increase the number of times it comes on. With my system, I started with it on 3 times a day. As i increased the sizes of my pots I increased it to 4 times a day.
A medium like coco choir is much easier for new growers to get good results in, trust me if I can use it successful then anyone can do it!
Lastly, I notice that you are drastically adjusting your PH levels from one extreme to the other... If you switch growing medium I can almost guarantee that you will be able to balance the PH a little better, (I only adjust my PH once a week!). Leaping constantly from just under 7 to 5.5 can't be good for the plants, you need to chill out on that a it
. Aim for a middle of the road level, between 5,9 & 6.2.
I know everything I've said boils down to changing your medium, and that is a real pain but I can only advise you on what I actually know, as I said earlier I for one would not be able to grow in those pebbly things using a dripper system so I'm not going to tell you otherwise.
I hope this helps you... I'm feeling your frustration. Good luck.
