Hi, guys new to forum but I have reading thru it for weeks. Seems like a really good community so I decided to sign up. I have a cabinet that I'm going to grow in. I already have everything I need except for the seeds which I am waiting for. I ordered the tutankhamon and got a freebie (diesel auto). In addition I have 2 bag seeds. My cabinet is 2ft11inch by 1ft7inch and the height is 5ft2inch. I was wondering if that would be big enough. I'm using cfl's. I have 2 105watts. 1 for each until it gets bigger then I plan on getting 42s or 26s. Also do u think that heat would be a problem. I also plan on lst and topping and/or fiming these plants. Any help would be appreciated. Thnx.

the space is fine for two plants but since you have a lot of height and not alot of width you should think about growing them straight up instead of sideways. or you can do one plant with lst and scrog it to fill the space up. since its your first grow id suggest doing the first run with the bag seeds. its all up to you though, a picture of the space would help. when you get your seeds to pop all you really need is 1 27 bulb over each plant. with proper ventilation and air circulation you can get that 27w within a inch or two of the plant and that would be better then having a 100w 8-12 inches away.

as far as heat issues, if this cabinet is a stand alone one not attached to your house youre gona want to cut a passive intake near the bottom and have a fan pulling air out of it at the top near the lights. a small oscillating fan inside would be a good idea too.

for more ideas check out the DIY section here, theres a bunch of guides on how to build a cabinet grow box. start building it now so when your seeds come your ready right away. there will be problems with the build that youre gona need time to either buy stuff or fix stuff. give yourself time so you can do it right the first time and not have to go back and redo or grow with a half built box. good luck and welcome to the world of growing, its the only thing about marijuana that's addictive!

Welcome. Heat will always build. I'd recommend the ductstat or constant ventilation of 73 degree air. Make sure everything is light proof as well. 5 feet tall is good. Start with the bag seed.

Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it. So are you saying that I can't put a 105watt cfl 1 or 2 inches from the plant. I get not putting it that close to a seedling but what about when it gets bigger? I'll put pics of the cabinet up later. I can't do it from my phone. Any of you guys ever have a problem with attitudes feminized seeds?

You should monitor the heat just above the plants, then keep adjusting the distance according to the heat.

A fan blowing cool air on the plants will help reduce the heat thus allowing for the lamp to be set closer.

I cheat and use big 105 actual watt cfl's. They can singe your plant if they actually touch! Make sure you have a fan blowing directly on them, and use the back of your hand to test for heat. I suspend them over tops at 3"
or so. My biggest complaint with them is that two or three big cfl's will get your temps up quick!
