poppy indoors question

RIP to SWIY's babies.

Can you make a journal of SWIY's outdoor grow? I'd love to read up on a real poppy grow journal.

SWIM is going to have an outdoor grow as well, and will try to keep a journal.

Perhaps we can share the journals with TPTAU (the people that aren't us ).

Absolutely... SWIM's having some bulk soil brought in early next week for his 2'x13' plot and should have all of his direct-sown overwinters in the ground by mid-october... He will be using a variety of techniques like starting some in peat pellets indoors and out (in 2 liter bottles), starting some under lights (with tomatoes so his 2nd mumsy shouldn't trip about him setting up the rig again), tossing some into a small plot of amended clay soil, and some container grows; and of course, all this with dif strains... SWIM should def have a good idea of what works for him all the way out in 5b. His fam also has a privacy fence in the works, so there will be even more surfaces to garden along. PS's are only one of many ornamentals that will be in this botanical paradise as he has a love for gardening in general, but, as I said in an earlier post, he will be free farming the countryside (fall and spring) for maximum floral-arrangement output.

Also, on an immature note, he's added a couple oz's of his culinary's to his wife's beloved wildflower mix for some weird sense of justice (lol... grief does funny things to man). PAPAVER PANDEMONIUM BITCHES!

swim has a very large outdoor garden of white persians and chicks and hens. very beautiful, i dig em. only way for true tai stick.

OK, so SWIM ate one very small unripe pod and another almost ripe pod. He said he felt REALLY good and was surprised at how potent they were.

He took a 500 mg acetaminophen to go along with it.

very nice. swim uses the fresh pods for tea once he is done with them. swim said he has not ever been so intoxicated (pain free/indifferent to pain) and swim has had much experience with phamy's

Haven't checked in here in a while. I'm glad to hear SWIY's florals are doin the trick, sadaam.. just makes me feel bad for poor ol' SWIM; oh, what could've been. Looks like SWIY's got plenty of flowers/pods, what's the count up to?

Kether, SWIM's got some whites he's gonna be sowing pretty soon, what zone is SWIY growing in? I'm dying to find out if anyone has successfully overwintered poppies in 5b..

Yeah, SWIM keeps plucking them before they're good and ready...... However, they do the deed. SWIM has vowed not to touch them again till they're ripe.

SWIM will be growing in zone 7 or 8. Will be sowing VERY soon.

I hope SWIY's overwintering goes well. I'm not very familiar with the different zones but that be COLD right? lol

You can make small incisions on the ripe pods and the opium latex (aka the goodies) will ooze out and dry up. You can scrape it off and eat it or smoke it.

You could also just eat the pods. Some people dry the pods, grind them into powder and make a tea with it.

I guess it's your choice. But yeah, you'll get a buzz. If you have a high tolerance for opiates it might take a lot of pods. If you have a low opiate tolerance, and the pods are potent, it might only take a few.

You won't trip. It will just make you feel laid back and all warm and cozy. Opium is what morphine, oxycontin, hydrocodone, percocets, and lortabs come from. So if you've tried those you'll have some idea of what opium is like.

Hey saddam, was that SWIY's first time lancing? What did he use? I've heard of newbs using serrated plastic butter knives satisfactorily.

In zones above 7, from what I've read on the Porg, overwintering a majority of ones crop is the way to go because June gets too hot for any spring-starts. 5b does get pretty cold in the winter and there's usually a lot of snow. SWIM is wondering at what stage of development seedlings will go dormant when frozen. I know that if they're allowed to mature too much before 1st frost, they will die, but, have heard that there's a nice "sweet spot" where they will simply just go to sleep, even under snow from what I've seen on gardening forums (people actually planting them just as ornamentals).

Some other things SWIM will be doing is sowing them in containers and covering them with two-liter bottles. This will at least keep out the snow. If none of these direct sow methods work, there's always starting them in peat pellets a month or so before last frost. SWIM will be damned if he has to wait until June for a decent harvest.

I'm drooling over here! haha. What's the total height on your poppies? You think it would be possible to do a PC case grow for a few poppies??
