I'm no expert, I am growing some this year for the first time. It is important to thin them out 6" apart at least.

you should also sow in the winter to get them ready for there upcoming grow. poppies take for ever to germinate

There were a couple of threads posted 2-3 months ago about PS, maybe in the Hallucinatory forum, by guys that knew all about growing them. Maybe some good contact info. I grew them a few times but never in qty. Difficult to transplant as roots are very delicate. Once they got going it was pretty easy. Edit Here we go: Canndo is the expert https://www.rollitup.org/hallucinatory-substances/633351-poppies.html .... https://www.rollitup.org/hallucinatory-substances/150860-how-do-i-grow-opium.html ..... https://www.rollitup.org/hallucinatory-substances/593007-third-year-poppies.html

3 weeks ago isnt really long enough ago to get a good harvest, you probably wont get much unless you have several hundred flowers. usually its better to direct sow them in march through april outside, im in zone 5 so it might be different for you, but usually before it stops snowing is when you would sow them. good luck and hope you do well, they are beautiful and fun to grow

what about feeding them a compost tea would this help with it in late season?
