I am experiencing spider mites in flowers. I don't like the idea of using pesticides so this is what I am thinking:
- get a cool mist humidifier and fog the grow area
- possible formula one - isopropyl alcohol and H2O2
- possible formula two - rosemary oil
- possible formula three - habenero juice
For these I would use the cool misters which work by having a high frequency vibration put mist into the air. There are other humidifiers that use heat to put the moisture up into the air. I might consider this more for the habenero juice than the other formulas with the thought that the heat may work better.
The goal of this is to make a fog that reaches into the flowers without negative effects that pesticides might leave.
I have done some research and this if it has been done has not to my knowledge been reported on the Internet.
It would be nice to have a safe and effective method to at least knock the mites back.
I have tried lady bugs but they tended to fly away even with coating them with a 50/50 coke (soda) and water mixture.
I also am currently trying to use lace wings and I think they are okay but the spider mites are currently still winning.
If I could just power up the mister once a week and have reasonable control this could be a new technique to this all to common problem.
My main goal is to make some medibles with the current crop to see if I can find a medicated solution to digestive issues I have.
According to my doctor that digestive system has a lot of nerves in it and where others may get a migraine I get a stomach migraine of sorts.
I don't think the mites will harm the making of medibles but it is yet to be proven by me.
If anyone has any input I would like to hear of it.
Best wishes and good growing.
