Post-Germination Problems

I've started to grow in my closet several times but each time after the seeds are planted in the soil from my backyard (about a finger pinch deep) after a few days they shrivel up at the tip, turn a yellowish color, and no roots form. I use a solo cup to start them in and a lamp about a foot away from the cup to start. I put just a few drops of water after i plant them. Is it too dry for the plant to grow? What am i doing wrong!!?

after u get the lil girls to sprout out of the soil keep it a consitant temp of 65-75 and a humidity of 45-70 if u can get it higher the new sprouts will really like it and do u have ne drain holes in ur solos cuz if u dont u mite want to add sum and put sumthin under it to catch the run off .... u should water so that the soil is wet all the way thru so if u can water it till u c the extra coming out of the bottom of the cup ur good then u shouldnt need to water again till the soil is dry about 1 inch below surface ........ also wat kind of light u using?

the seeds may not like the soil in your backyard. Maybe start off with some good brand name potting soil

awesome man a HID is good for one plant does it penitrate all the way thru the leaves to the soil and light the stem and all or is it just gettin the tops of the leaves cuz if its not getin to the bottom u may want to try gettin sum lamps with cfls or small HID's to fill in the dark spots just so u completely make sure theres plenty of light u cant go wrong with more light just dont let it get too hot if its necessary get a small fan to blow on them to cool them off the fan will also strength the stem of the plant as long as its a lite breeze and not a hurricane blowin over it the stem breaks slightly with every sway and heals creating a stronger more supportive stalk

The real cure = Soil Plugs and a germination tray. The tray is just a plastic container that allows 'sweat' to build and keep the humidity high it's the simplest solution and dirt cheap, 25 plugs are $10 and a germ tray shouldn't be more than $7. Good luck with your grow and try being patient with your seeds let them get the tap root all the way out of the seed before you stick it into a soil plug. The plugs I use are already treated with enough food for the first week or 2 including bacteria that helps create insane root development.

Like in this picture of a 4 day old sprout, also I highly recommend a 26W 6000K+ CFL bulb and a 10" reflector from Ace hardware or similar. Put the reflector right on top of the germ tray and Voila problem solved and they will love it.:weed:

The last 2 are from my current aerochallenge
