Alright so after what can only be described as a disaster of a first attempt i have decided to call it quits with my first grow attempt. It served as a huge learning curve but i still need to work out exactly what i did wrong.
so here are the details of my grow space and my attempted grow. Keep in mind it is in a broom closet and i only want to grow 1 or 2 plants in there in the end.
Grow space.
Dimensions:
38cm wide
49cm deep
112cm height
Additions:
Emergency blanket used on sides and bottom for reflection.
Extractor fan duct just above light to remove heat.
Small fan near the ground for air flow over plants.
Lights:
150 watt HPS (always kept at least 25cm away from top of the plants)
Next grow thinking of starting with 2 42 watt CFLs and only adding the HPS later on when plants are bigger.
Soil:
Initially before transplant just organic potting soil made from wood bark.( Not good i know but i hadn't done enough research before starting)
After transplant 50 percent compost, 20 percent perlite, 30 percent same potting soil from before.( Also not the best i know)
Nutrients:
Only started using cause the plants leaves were going greeny yellow and i thought that there wasn't enough nitrogen.
Initially Nitrosol by Greena gardens but stopped using after nutrient burn and nitrogen toxicity started up.
Plants stayed greeny yellow and started to curl up and a bit of necropsy.
After that didn't work I thought maybe there was a phosphorus deficiency so I used cacti and succulents plant food by Pokon. Used twice (two days in a row) then stopped.
Large difference in the color of the leaves was seen within 4 days the new growth was dark green.
However 2 days after those 4 nutrient burn got worse and so normal water was used for the next 2 weeks.
Plants quickly changed back to a greeny yellow and looked sickly.
Tried using some gwano pellets from pro ten but that didn't help at all.
OK and here comes the big thing. I do not know any of the PHs of the nutes or the water i was giving the plants as I don't have a ph meter i will be getting one before the next grow.
The strange thing is that about 3 weeks into the grow I had to move some of the plants out side as there wasn't enough space inside for them anymore. I gave them pretty much the same notes and water but the plants that were moved outside are healthy and look good(still small though).
Plants:
Random bag seed.
All hybrids with sativa dominance.
Plants stayed small with little to no space between nodes and didn't stretch out side ways at all. (will upload photos in next post)
So I know I have no experience growing and that i messed up a lot but i need help figuring out what not to repeat and what to do with my next attempt.
Keep in mind i am in South Africa and good bottled nutes and good soil ready to use is hard to find.
