i knew a guy like that too ... he had been smokin cigs since about the same age in addition to weed. he coughed up so much gray mucas daily it was digusting ... and he was 16 goin on 40

aww lol. no it just needs a good cleaning session. like a GOOD one. my bong still looks new and sparkly =) because i clean it when i wake up and before i go to sleep. no smelly, stinky bong for me!
