Planting too deep can actually weaken the root structure but it has never been an issue for me. Remember do not overwater/ feed make sure the soil is not so way that you see run off. Its is very important the roots get air, letting them search for water promotes the roots system. Its all about balance

I've planted several clones with nothing more than a single new 1/4 inch root poking out.
After You have roots you're good to go.
How long you wait is all up to you.
Although more roots = much easier transition.
Its already been stated to not over water.
When you transplant make sure your medium is damp. Not wet but damp.
Your roots will go nuts under there but still get enough water to keep on trucking with New veg growth.
My personal method (using promix) is to fill up a 2 gallon pot full. Then dump it in a tote. Add a liter of water. Mix it by hand until the moisture is consistent throughout. Then return it to the pot.
I don't tamp it down. The reason being that it'll be lighter under so the roots have to go nuts.
Then add soaked seed or clone.
If its a seed I'll pour a shot of water on top of it to bind the soil on top. That way it pulls it's own shell off no prob when it breaks the surface.
It usually takes a little over a week before first watering. The medium on top will be extremely dry but that's because it's so loose. Down low everything's good.
By that time I've got roots exploding out of the bottom holes all over the place.
Then I add more medium and water. The loose medium sinks down to where it would have been if it was tamped down in the first place.
My plants keep nonstop steady growth up top doing this. Its forces the rootmass to get as big as it can as fast as it can.
Its a perfect middle ground for me anyways.
I consistently get 5 full growth nodes in 12 days from the minute a seed breaks the surface.

Is this what you use?
