Pot size for autoflower strain

How long does it take to finish? If you've got an 8-9 weeker, 3 gal. If you've got a 12+ weeker, 5 gal. Take note that some strains have longer phenotypes. This assumes soil.

I had one short one (9 weeks) and one very long one (14 weeks, cut early)... both in 5 gallon pots. The short one didn't fill out the pot at all, but the larger one was great.

A general rule is that a one-gallon pot will support a plant for one month of growth. With a 3-gallon pot you can count on 3 months plant growth. As few autos need that much time you can't really go wrong with something in the 2-3 gallon range.

Pot size does make a difference in size, but maybe not as much as one would think. I have experimented some with the subject of pot size vs. size/yield. With my usual strain, Blueberry Gum via G13 Labs, I can grow 36-40 inch plants that yield 25-35 grams cured in a 3/4 gallon berry carton that is 7 inches square. Using the same strain my yield increases 10-20% in 1 1/2 gallon pots and another 10-15% in 3 gallon pots.

About that gallon per month ratio - the only time I break out any pot over 3 gallons is when I'm experimenting with some sativas that take 12 weeks just to flower, or when setting a plant up to be a mother plant.

Good luck, BigSteve.

3 usgallon/ 15 liters is standard ^^^

that said I'm in 2 3/4 gallon (10 liters) for this grow

avoid potting up

above all check out the auto rootball come harvest

you'll be amazed, and contrary to popular believe

it ain't the pot size that makes it ....lol

I agree with the popular consensus on this one...3 gallons is sufficient...the minimum IMHO is also 3 gallons. As was said previously there are a great many strains and phenos out there. But even if your grow goes to 5-8 weeks, they will very likely be fine and will not become root locked.

Good Luck and Great Growz!
