Pot size for SOG

Hello all! Finally made an account to ask this question.

I am planning for my next crop. Currently I am running an 8 plant ScROG. The net works great but its a pain in the ass.

For my next crop I was thinking of running a SOG. I ran 2 tester plants which were vegged for about 3 weeks from seed and flipped from about 4" to 12/12 and yielded 17g each.

My space is 42" by 36" and lit by one 315w MH

My question is, would I benifit more from running 42 one gallon pots and vegging for a couple days from established clones (6.5" pots) or should i step up to 9" pots with 20 plants.

Not concerned with plant numbers whatsoever. Strains will be Northern Lights and Afghani in a single cola style. In my current set up each cola occupies about 8" of space from the tips of the leaves.

If hitchhikers guide taught me anything the awnser is obviously 42, just wanted insight from people who have run multipe SOGs

Thanks!!!

I ran a lot of SoG back in the day, flood and drain. Used 6 inch square pots. I wouldn't want to do a SoG without flood and drain, watering all those pots gets old.

In regards to ScROG nets bei g a pain in the ass, theres a few reasons I dont like them

1) watering. Watering is a huge pain in the ass. I ended up getting a spray wand to be able to reach under the canopy, but I cant fit a watering can between the pots and canopy easily enough for my liking. This isnt a dealbreaker, but i cant say its the most convenient option available.

2) pruning. My canopy is 36" deep. Being about 5'6" my arms can not easily reach all areas of the canopy. Again, this isnt a huge deal but not ideal either

3)uneven canopy. I will chalk this one up to a lack of experience. For whatever reason my plants still take dominance to one or two colas, and I'm not great at filling out the corners yet.

4) not being able to move the plants physically. This is personal preference but i prefer being able to bring each plant to the living room so i can sit down and do my pruning comfortably, and reposition plants as they grow if i feel theres a better way.

Off the top of my head thats basically it. I believe i did say I have not found a better method yet.

In saying this, i do realize if I am complaining about watering 8 pots that are 2-5 gallons, imagine how I would feel about watering 42 pots that are 1 gallon.

Also, i would like to mention my vertical height is about 5.5' and non negotiable, which is why I am trying to get away from growing large plants.

Thank you to everyone who has commented so far!

Renfro do you remember the dimensions of the pots. I was looking at some that were 6"×6" and 8" tall, but am having a helluva time sourcing them locally so was going to use 6" round pots

Thank you for your reasons, Kush Monster. If you want, I can make some recommendations to help fix those.

But give the SoG method a go and see if that floats your boat.
