Pot transplanting size advice

Hi,

I have 4 plants, 28 days old.

I started seeds in very small pots.
After 14 days I moved them to a 1.5 liter pot.
Very soon its time to move them again.

I am pointing to a final pot of 7 liter each (its a small 2X2 tent).

Move them first to 3.5 litter or jump from 1.5 litter to 7 litter? ( I have both sizes)

From watering perspective, its much easier for me to go to 3.5L and after a while, to 7L.
Its harder for me to control the watering with large pot and small plant... I prefer to water every 2 days and to be able to response quick to nutrition needs.
Also, I have Mycorrhizae supplement that I will apply when transplanting.

What do you think guys?
1.5L -> 7L
Or
1.5L -> 3.5L -> 7L

I’d go straight to bigger one. Just my opinion.

28 days old in a 1.5L pot??? Those plants are growing really slowly or they’re really root bound. I’d go with the bigger pots.

You are absolutly right! They where starting to root bound.
I hope it will not cause any issues...

I didn't know the roots are growing so fast!
I moved them all to a 7L pot.

Yeah roots grow super fast especially in well aerated soils. Root bound in itself is not a bad thing as long as you don’t let it go too long and can manage the nutes. I direct seed in 2-1/4” square extra deep rose pots. This last round I transplanted to 1 gallon(4L) after 13 days and then to 5 gallon (20L) 10 days later. Three days later I can see roots coming out the side holes at the bottom. I just switched from Fox Farm to ProMix HP (high porosity) with mycorrhizae. Definitely a faster mix early on. I think the FF is a bit to hot for small plants.

I start in the small square nursery pots just not the extra deep. I think they're 3-1/4" deep. They fit 32 to a standard nursery tray. I have a ton of them I've gotten from buying flower starts over the years. I just keep reusing them. But I think I have some of the extra deep ones as well. As popular as Dixie cups are I can't stand them for anything other than beer from a keg.
