Pots not full of soil

So I notice lots of people who only seem to fill their pots 3/4 with soil. Is there some reason for this that I am missing? i get mine pretty full so the roots have more depth. Doesn't that make more sense?

its just a mess thing .. when you water your plants the water wont over flow into the garden so i leave a lil space so water will settle. hope it helps

I didn't factor in how much my soil would settle after a few watering's.
Live and learn I suppose.
I know plants don't like to be buried deeper after the root system is developed so I just let it roll.
Smart pots should help I suppose.

I don't recall where, and don't remember there being any support or sources for the info, but when I first, first started growing and reading, I read that you should leave about an inch of pot above the soil, so that's what I've done. Then, as someone else mentioned, there's settling after watering, as I don't pack down much when filling the pots in the first place.

Interesting. I wet my soil before putting in the pot and use a drip system, so no mess. I was just curious. thx

I only 3/4 soil because if I get stretching issues I can fill the rest of the pot up. Botta boom, botta bing; no more stretched out seedling.

I think you nailed there Buddy.
That Bitchin' watering system that you have doesn't wash the soil around like standard watering.
Another reason I'm gonna copy it.
I have a home Brewing rig, and the 5 Gallon bucket with spout is perfect.

Nice and thx. Maybe you can answer one. people saying to throw your brew in the tent for co2. don't know what they're brewing but i keep mine as cool as I can while fermenting. I am ready for the zombie apocalypse with home brew and grow!

Yes, like a user above said. 3/4 soil is very good because if your seedling is stretching and starts to tip, you can add more soil around the base, thus making a stronger plant.
