you can start a seed or clone in nearly any size container. try a regular sized cup for starts. once it begins to outgrow that, i transplant into it's final container, which'll be either a 3 gal pot or 5 gal..... good luck

You should simply aim to have an approx 3-5 foot pot. You could look into getting those big plastic buckets, since they're quite popular, and seem to be a decent size too.

I never grow in anything smaller than 5-gallon pots and normally I use 7-gallon pots. I always start out my germed beans in whatever pot size I am using for that particular run. I never repot, I never upsize during a grow. I never need to.

A plant’s below soil mass it very close to being the same size as the above soil mass so consider the size of the plants you will grow and then think if you could fit all the above soil portion of the plants into the pots you are using along with an adequate amount of soil and it not be like a case of trying to stuff 5 pounds of baloney into a 2 pound skin.

You can never use to large of a pot, meaning that would never cause a plant to have any problems, but you very easily can use pots that are to small in size and very many growers use pot sizes that are to small even though they believe what they are using and what they are doing is the very best way to go.

Only thing is, you're probably a bigger time grower than this lad here. Bigger than me too.

I still can't use pots that are over 5 gallons, since I'm very much height restricted, and also, seems kinda weird when someone goes to a growing store, and buys 600$ worth of stuff.
Not that that's ever happened to me... But hey, you get my drift.
