Powdery Mildew, Sulfer and H2O2

I've got some time today ,so will reply to this post as well today. Just in case someone comes across this with the same problem.
PM is an infection of the whole plant.
That's right!
When you see PM it is coming out of the leaf surface and erupting out of an infection to infect other plants.
It is NOT on the leaf it is in the plant! Just the spores are on the leaves. They can spread to infect other plants.
Just imagine if you had an erupting infection on your skin. Spewing contagious spores. It's like that! And your sick!
We take antibiotics to get rid of infections. Plants need immunity boosters while in flower as there immunity is lowered.
How to do this is up to you, but I kill the infection within with horsetail tea.
Once used the plant heals itself and the infection stops!
You can just clean it off the leafs with whatever the nubes say to use and it will erupt again in 3-4 days.
it's better that your plant has a healthy immune system. That fights and kills the PM from within!
Heal your plant and it goes away completely.
Lots of info is available for making horsetail tea.
It just works!

Hi Haze the Maze

I've come across several opinions on whether or not powdery mildew is systemic or environmental, I didn't find any clear science.

Do you suggest that we not continue cloning a strain that had PM because the PM is already in the plant when cloned?

thanks

That's too bad Quenchy, that's a great looking plant.

You could treat the leaves with a foiler spray but the PM is probably in the bud by now, a temperature spike may be the only way to kill it at this point.

Another RUI member pointed out that the temperature spike isn't going to kill the spores, they survive temps of 550 F.

I've just finished my first pass of the flower garden with my CleanLight (UVC), I found small blotches of PM on my new crop in flower. Blue Dream and OG Kush are the infected plants so far, small water drop sized colonies on the lower leaves.

I'm going to use only the CleanLight to keep the infection under control until my AirROS gets here in 2 or 3 weeks. 2 passes of the garden daily.

Heartbreaking.

I'm surprised no one recommended Marrone Bio's Regalia...It's simply the best. My pm issues are long gone after trying a shit load of home recipes, and other products which only work temporarily. And Regalia is certified organic and can be used right up until harvest.

It's not cheap to buy, but a quart will bring hundreds of plants to harvest powdery mildew free, without killing you (like a sulfur burn could). I also use their Venerate, as part of my IPM program.

Manfredo they don't ship directly to Canada, did you buy yours direct from Marrone?

I'll have to drop ship.

,
I did not buy from Marrone directly...One of the distributors, I don't recall...I'm in the US. I really can't say enough good about the Regalia...It makes your plants super healthy and strong, and that's essentially how it works. Lot's of YouTube videos on the stuff from all kinds of farmers. Now that I am long past my pm issue, I only use it up until about week 2 of flower, as I don't like spraying anything on pistols...Seems to be working great.

Thanks for continuing to post on this thread Hobbes. I’ve explored some similar paths you have and the systemic/non systemic bothers me. I have also heard is described as Haze points out as an infection from within. To try and take the analogy then of a cold sore... it’s possible for a person to go years without an “outbreak” and then a major stress event can trigger one. It’s always “there”, but can be avoided in many cases. It doesn’t seem right that once a plant has it, you can never grow it clean again (without maybe tissue culture)? But I hope not.

I’ve been batting it since early September. My first grow (harvest august) was clean. I have a theory about when it got a hold of my plants. The AC I use in the room has a very powerful exhaust fan (which I vent out of the room). When I put the AC on an Inkbird controller, when the ac would shut off (was infrequent in hot summer) the humidity would spike because of the major change in exhaust in the room - too big of a spike for the dehum to handle at once. The room was only like that for a day or two before I realized the problem (solved by forcing ac on 100% of the time) but I really think that’s where it all started. That was early September.

I was only a few weeks into flower then so I used a Canadian product called Jakes which is fairly heavy on sulfur. Since the i’ve been using Elium by Optic Foliar (along with Transport) every 5-7 days. It an ongoing battle and i’ve already culled a number of plants and aggressively pruned buds to keep what’s left clean. My bigger concern is going forward. I totally felt your pain following the thread. I’m currently contemplating abandoning a number of plants and just starting the flower room over.

did you wind up getting the AIRROS system? I’ve been pondering it for over a month... I don’t mind swallowing the $$ if it’s the magic pill it claims but i’m skeptical ... if it’s too good to be true... it also begs the question why it’s not more widely adopted ... saving one crop pays for itself ... never mind the possibilities of running a more proper VPD with higher humidity.

I’m definitely going to do a sulfur burner in veg and first bits of flower. It broke my heart seeing you had it return in your plants so fuck long term how to clean these plants up!?

sorry for all the stoner rambles:bigjoint:

I did buy an AirROS right away (about 4 or 6 weeks ago) and as far as I can tell my crop is mildew clean! I've harvested OG Kush and Blue Dream and both were clean, I`ve still got Lemon Haze and Sluracane flowering and both look and smell great. None of that mildew piney smell, smell of berries and lemon.

I wasn`t as skeptical because Renfro referred the AirROSS to me and he runs one in his grow, but it is a lot of money - $3,200 in the US and converted to Canadian with sales tax added in it was $5,200. I just couldn`t risk loosing another crop.

Thanks for the kind words and I hope you get your problem solved as I believe I`ve solved mine.

White Powdery Mildew is weed herpes and the only cure I've truly found to work is treating the babies (before roots) with Eagle 20 EW @ 10ml gallon of water solution and then growing in an entirely gas & ozone sterilized room or new room that has never had outside plants. Only grow plants that were treated. Tests from lab come back negative for Eagle 20EW. I'd never spray eagle during bloom or just before.

Do your research if you plan to use eagle, You'll want a respirator and complete bodysuit with washsink and chemical experience. If you don't have that then just buy GreenCure or similar and spray your plants down regularly every 5-7 days.

Good luck. White Powdery Mildew is definitely weed aids. I never had it on my plants until I put a gifted clone from a friend into my grow after 2 years of no issues with 13 different strains.

You think I can light a couple of sparkler and create that sulfur smoke and smell.
That won't work as the sulfur is actually being burnt. "Sulfur Burners" are really sulfur vaporizers. They heat the sulfur material enough to make it vaporize into a toxic ploom. The smell doesn't stop mold its the alkaline PH of the sulfur when it soaks into surfaces that kills mold/mildew spores.

Thanks for the warning TOK, It's important to keep things in perspective, its only a pound of weed. But I'm not ready to give up on it yet.

.

My goal is to save the whole pound by doing a 20 minute wash in Dr Zymes' Eliminator. If the weed can't be saved for vaporizing I'm looking at either making coconut oil or pressing for rosin.

Using the Magical Butter Machine the coco oil is heated to 160 C for 2 hours, will this kill the mildew?

Another option is to press the bud in my dab press, making rosin, but I don't know if this will kill mildew either.

my final option would be to make ice water hash, don't like the process or the product.

Any help would be appreciated.

h202 wash worked really good for me when I was forced to harvest my plants with PM.. saved my crop...
I've changed my room around to help combat high humidity and fixed my airflow in hopes to not have this issue again.... Just seen a spot on my veg plants which are in a different building... damn spores....looking for the best treatment for veg plants... thinking about Dr Zymes.

How much h2o2 did you use?

I used 1 cup 3% h2o2 to 4 gallons of water and it didn't work great.

.

Dr Zymes says that you can soak in their solution, after harvest, for up to 20 minutes and that should kill (dissolve) all PM and spores.
