i have a friend that is in the path of hurricane Irene.
theres possible power outages.. he's in a bubbleponic system.
if the power were to go out for a day.. or a few days..

is there anything that can be done to salvage his grow?
will the roots die off? should he let them soak and take them out over certain periods of time?

thanx to anyone taking their time to contribute a solution if at all possible

Well one day you could pry get away with but 2 or 3 can cause problems. Yes, soaking them and taking them out is a good idea, just make sure you mix the solution around to oxygenate it before soaking. To prevent later on you can get a battery or two and hook one of these up:

Its probably too late but a generator comes in handy in situations like this. The power inverter m420p mentioned would be an easier to find, cheaper alternative. Would it be possible to set em up kinda like a manual ebb & flow?

This is a good Idea m420p gave you.

But if you can not get one of those in time. then carefully stir up the nutrient mixture to adequate air into the water. And if you have an air stone in your rez, then blow threw the hose with your mouth. Plus you might get the bonus head rush. So make sure to take a few hits before you try this. :)

When you take a breath, and then exhale. You blow out about 14-16% oxygen and a bunch of Co2. You can keep your plant alive for a few days this way. Just check on them every 4-6 hours when lights are on.

I had a 45 min. power outage once, in mid/late flower, and that was enough to seriously stink up my whole apartment.
Even with just 5 plants.

So plan for odor too!

You don't need one that big If that's all you need it for. Just make sure you get one that hooks up to a battery. The smaller the less time it will take to drain the battery. Heres a link to explore on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_st?keywords=12+V+DC+to+AC+power+inverter&qid=1314502933&rh=n%3A172282%2Ck%3A12+V+DC+to+AC+power+inverter&sort=popular-crp-rank

As for the amount of time leaving in and out, Id usually swish the water around(get it really oxygenated) and let it sit in the solution for 2-5 minutes, then let it sit out for 20 or 30 minutes. Its a pain but unless you have one of those^ or a generator, you have to.
