Hi
After buying a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)meter and reading this site for a few hours. Some of this info might save you some time if you are new to this subject..
I found my TDS meter to be of the 500 PPM scale variety. After reading that most of the info on this site is stated in the 700 PPM scale. I started looking into conversion. I found various methods using division and multiplication. the easiest way i found to do this was one easy multiplication.
to convert from the 700 PPM scale to the 500 PPM scale, multiply the number by 0.71
to convert from the 500 PPM scale to the 700 PPM scale, multiply the number by 1.4
this is accurate to within 1 or 2 PPM's. I messed about in excel(spreadsheet) and you can add more decimal places to get it closer. but i find this to be accurate enough..
If like me your nutes manufacturer has their feed charts in CF or EC..
EC and CF are very similar. to convert between them is easy too.
EC = CF / 10
and
CF = EC x 10
simple..
to convert from CF to PPM's is also straightforward.
in the 500 PPM scale, 1 CF = 50 PPM's
in the 700 PPM scale, 1 CF = 70 PPM's
so:
to convert to the 500 PPM scale : PPM = CF x 50
to convert to the 700 PPM scale : PPM = CF x 70
hope this info is helpfull..
Now for me looking for a bit of help.. can any greenfingered Jedi out there tell me if they think that this strength of nutes recommended by manufacturer is too strong or ok. Im using the easy grow and easy bloom.
Thanks in advance
