ppm question

So I have a new girl starting. I just added the first nutri to the res, very low strength. I have 5 gallons of spring water in the res and added 5ml of micro and 7ml of grow. I checked the ppm after adding and it was 3050ppm. The ph is 5.9 I do not understand why it would be so high with very little nutri strength. IS there a way to lower it besides diluting with water? Or any other ideas? She is growing great, perfect color and leafs healthy.

Even with my limited knowledge, I know that 3000PPM would kill your plants fairly quickly, if it were a true reading of your entire res.

Hope that is not incorrect information.

Gotta admit, I too think your meter is off, that seems very high for such a low dosage, or it could be the spring water, have you checked it without nutes mixed in? what nutes are you using?

Regardless of which nutes he is using, it is a 3 part, and he is only using 2 out of the 3! He needs to add some bloom as well to avoid deficiencies!

I agree with others on the meter either being faulty or needing calibration. With that little of nutes into 5 gallons, you should be reading about 50-100ppm above what your water ppm is.

Sounds like a broken pen, have you tested your tap water with a working pen and know what it is so you can check your pen? But no way 12 ML of nuts in a 5 gal is 3k. How much water in the rez 2/3?

I have tested the spring water prior to adding into the res, its around 74ppm. Does anyone suggest a ppm pen brand? I was thinking about getting the ones where you leave them in and the lcd screen you mount on the outside somewhere for constant reads. The one thing I have noticed with this reader I have is it only goes out 3 digits, however reads up to 9999ppm. So I just add a zero to the end of every number.

If the little x10 indicator is displayed. You multiply the result by 10. If it isn't displayed. You don't. That's how they display ppms from 1-9999, using only 3 digits. As Malevolence posted. 305 sounds way more realistic. Unless your plants are a smoking ruin. In which case, 3050 was probably correct

I can personally recommend the NutraDip Tri-meter!

I have been using mine for 3+ years now without a hitch! I calibrate once per grow just because!(minimal if any adjustment required during each calibration!) This thing reads spot on and just plain works 110% of the time! I got mine through my grow shop way back when and it was a refurbished unit at less than 1/2 the price of a new one! I have never looked at or even considered anything ever since then!

ps. I know guys like LordJin have purchased and used knockoff meters from ebay and have worked just as well for a fraction of the price.
