PPM Range

Hi,

I'm a newbie and have a question on PPM. I'm growing with DWC buckets using unfiltered, un-RO'ed tap water. I do not let it sit to let the chlorine evaporate. My PPM of just the water is 522-529. Is this too high? I've not measured the PPM of the water/nute mix which I assume is the more important factor?

Advice is appreciated!

yeah you def want to check it once you add your nutrients, and if you used RO you would start a lot lower and have a better idea of how much of that is your nutrients.
i use ro and i have well water, if i had tap i would wait for the chlorine to evaporate.

range varies depending on the sizes of the plants, for a small plant 500 would be acceptable, but again that's with your nutes

and most importantly is your ph

i'm fairly new to all this but have already learned so much with everyone's help.

Thanks to all!!

that seems kinda high, but i'm only used to seeing 130 outta my tap. but if saw mid to upper 500s, i would ask myself...would i drink this? if answer yes, then rock and roll and keep doing what you're doing. if answer no, then you might wanna filter that water somehow. RO, Brita, i think if you poured it thru a coffee filter you could knock off @ least 150ppm, ha!

dude, don't use that crap! get yourself an r/o filter. worth every penny. you can get fairly cheap portable ones on e-bay.

If you can't afford a RO filter at the very least get a Britta/Pur water filter. They screw to your faucet and help a lot, not as good as RO but they are only $20 -$30.
