Pre Harvest Flush

I have been reading different techniques for how people handle their plants the week before harvesting. It seems that some people Flush a lot with cold water a couple days before while others dont give their plants any water at all. Has anyone tried both of these techniques to see which one could possibly be better in terms of quality and smoke?

People that use synthetics or just a lot of ferts period will flush 3 gallons to each gallon of planter during the last week so the plant does not uptake and store any nutrients. This makes the plant feed off it's stored nutrients which makes a smoother and tastier smoke.

not watering the last few days is mostly organic gardeners that need not flush. The reasoning is that the trichomes are like little radiators for what would be seeds, helping to cool the plant in it's naturally arid climate. Some growers choose to drop humidity as low as they can, and cut watering in hopes of amping up the amount of trichomes and THC levels with it

Trichomes are said to protect the plant from low humidity and a lower humidity does tend to increase production because of it. i think that what he got confused on. not watering the last week isnt going to increase trichome production though.

that would be directly from jorge cervantes. who you know.. wrote the bible.

i have most likely typed more solid info on cannabis cultivation than you have read, so save yourself the trouble.

also never said that was my practice.

edit: i feel like a dick for saying it like that but come on, you have no idea who you are speaking to on the other side of the computer. i could be ed rosenthal for all you know.

Ask Jorge, it's NOT HIS INFO. He just copies the popular thought of the day into a book and he makes no apology for it either... "The Bible", no offense, but youd learn more from a Horticulture 101 book.

EDIT: And trics protect the seed's developing diploid chromosomes from UV radiation, look it up ;)

I asked Jorge directly about this. He said two weeks with pure water. I do ten days and it seems to work just fine. Most good growers will tell you to do it the last ten to fourteen days.

ten to fourteen days seems to early to me. I feel like using nutes during 14-7 days before harvest would increase bud production a lot? does it not make that big of a difference?

As experienced as jorge might be, I read his book and all he's familiar with is technique. The medical cannabis bible lacked any real information on the biology and chemistry of the cannabis plant. I mean most of you are probably only interested in technique, I on the other hand am fascinated by the science of botany and its def an area of knowledge that the cannabis growing community seems to lack in. Knowledge is power.

You and me both. I read his book and panned it on Amazon. Well, one of his books. I think he's a cool guy but hes an author/entertainer. Not a botanist. There's even something cartoonish about Mr Cervantes. Ed's stuff is more interesting to me because he explains the science behind things. He doesn't just give vague descriptions. Jorge's style is one more akin to romper room botany. For first graders. Not guys who want to do this shit for any length of time. But he's laughing all the way to the bank and I am not. So dude must be doing something right.

A simple farmer has no right to teach others how to grow plants? Who is writing the great books about growing weed that has a degree in botany?

I never said a simple farmer has no right to teach others how to grow, thats actually a great place to look for advice if you just want to learn basic techniques to success. It is the science of why these techniques work that intrigues me. Being able to understand why these techniques work based on biology and chemistry can only help empower the grower both with growing and life in general. Like I said knowledge is power, I'm just a believer in science and I think its something the cannabis growing community could use more of. If somebody with a degree in botany wrote a book about growing weed I would def buy it. Who knows maybe I could be the first one, there's still time to switch my major ;)
