Premixing Nutrients... Question

Hi RIU People. Quick Question... I know you cant premix nutrients and supplements without mixing them in water. But is it possible to mix them with say for example a gallon or 2 of R/O and store em to mix with a greater amount of water at a later date. I have 100 gallon res and normally I mix em all up but I gotta go away for a few weeks and I dont trust my friend to do it right...

Yes, this is called a stock solution. It is commonly used in fertigation where something like a syphon draws a set amount into a line as the plants are irrigated.

We used to do the HESI nutrient trick. Their nutes are pH neutral.

Take a plastic chem barrel (or a trash can) and mix into that. Add a bubbler system that rings the "tank". Drop a pump into that, and water with it.
Of course this was used for soil plants and soil self pH's those minor pH differences.

I might look at it this way.

The person who's going to monitor the grow, Is going to need to know how to pH the res anyway right? As long as your running air into that res. You can set it up early and see for your self how much the pH will change in a given amount of time.....You can figure out how often it needs to be pH adjusted - from that....

I'm not sure to be honest. My guess is you would need to experiment. I do know that with A/B type formulas separate stock solutions are usually made.

I personally mix up several 5 gallon buckets of nutes at a time and use them over a few days to a week. There may be draw back to this but from a practical perspective, I've never seen any.
