A prize home in Markham has been pulled from the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Home Lottery after organizers were informed that the home is located next to a house where the owner has a license to grow medical marijuana.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation announced the move in a news release issued Tuesday.

According to the foundation, the home at 39 Jeffrey Nidha Crescent in Markham will be withdrawn from the Home Lottery immediately and will not be open for public viewing.

“Last Friday we learned that one of our nine prize real estate properties actually backs on to a home where the individual has a license from Health Canada to have legalized marijuana. So they’re growing legalized marijuana in the home and it’s quite a pungent odour,” Princess Margaret Cancer Centre VP Christine Lasky told CP24 in an interview Tuesday evening.

Lasky said the foundation made the decision to pull the home after “careful consideration” over the weekend.

“It was the right decision to do,” Lasky said.

Lasky said the decision was made in consultation with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, which overseas charitable gaming, and with the developer, who is taking the home back.

An equivalent cash prize of $1.285 million plus regular bonus cash of $25,000 will be offered in place of the home itself, Lasky said.

The grand prize Kleinburg showhome, valued at $3.7 million, will still be open to the public for viewing, starting Saturday. The home is the lottery’s biggest prize ever and comes with a cottage and $100,000 in cash.

CP24 is affiliated with the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Home Lottery as a media partner.

SMH, This fuk head has been in the news a few times, this is the same dic who did not get a carbon filter after the school pleaded with him. This guy needs to be slapped, I think he must be in on it with HC, because how the fuk did The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation not know this prior? Also it is the The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, you would think they would be less harsh towards "Pot" they even admit it is legal. SMH........ but this guy is a douche, anyone know him? tell him to grow the fuk up.

FUCK THIS SMELL ISSUE!!!!!!!
Add another 25 likes! I'm been dealing with assholes over smell...
There are thousands of plants that smell, not everyone likes the smell of some plants...why do we allow anyone to say boo about medicinal plants? There is no health issue to warrant complaints...Can I force my nieghbour to get rid of their diesel truck because I don't like the smell or noise? Live and let live, ffs.

Gotta say that if buddy refuses to use a filter and flaunts it like what has been mentioned, then he really gives the medical community a black eye. I mean come on, it is so much easier being a good neighbor rather than the ass hole on the street. The city should step in, if enough of the neighbors regularly complain about the odor they can force him to scrub it. A property owner cannot impact adjacent property owners use, amenity and enjoyment of their own property. I would say that if the odour is as strong as they say that would impact the use of backyards. What a dick.

Edit this is why regulation can be a good thing. If you grow then you should be required to mitigate the odor as much as possible.

They interviewed the son of the guy involved in this story on Global last night, he has been on the news before for this same reason, He is such a loser, They own a million dollar home but for some reason can not afford a 50$ filter, then he tells the news, "well if HC would let me change address I would move my dad to an industrial unit" so clearly this is a money making operation who needs a fricken warehouse to grow for personal? Again that leads back to why they just can not filter the air?
I would put money that this grower probably has all kinds of problems, it seems like he likes to cut corners, would not be surprised if he sprays the shit out of his crops. Oh the other thing is the dad can not speak a lick of English, this is why the son always does the interviews, I would not doubt if the dad has no clue what is going on and the son is playing him.

Those industries are in specific areas, industrial areas. I agree the odor, noise, dust, smoke and stuff will travel but many of those industries were there for a very on time. In most cases sevelopment occurred around them not the other way around. This is a residential area, for families and kids, I don't think your
Would appreciate a chicken coop (smell and noise) next to you in are area where there is only 3 or 4 meters between homes. It has nothing g to do with bitch in about MJ. Buddy sounds like he is being deli deliberately a douch.

Ftr I also lived in Hamilton for a few years while gojng to school. It was always an industry town so while I agree that it stank, it is kinda a bad example cause it is jot the norm. Towns focused around industry will almost always have some sort of trade off.
