I almost got in wreck for playing cards with a black guy I made friends with, it really sucked being 50 years old in a
fire training prison Susanville.
About a week before I got out they put me out side to re-do the intake lines to the geothermal boiler I was getting some welding rod
and ran in to Ole Charlie gave him a hug and the white yard rep a heart attack. (You wanna get my ass killed??) is all he said.
I told them I served with blacks and in no time in my life have i ever been like that and never would.
I came here in a old 1 seated car and I refused to join in with any of them.
I walked tall and kept to my self. My game was smuggling Stainless steel rings for those with piercings.
Welding wire wrapped around a pencil and cut into rings. I'd hide them in my mouth when I went thru the metal detector.
I still love Top Ramen!!

......I had them all on my crew, Crips, Bloods, AB's, Northern & Southern Mexicans, Hells Angles,....and then there were the Bad Asses! lol!.....The guy's too crazy to even be in a gang!

I never went to a fire camp I was stuck were the physical training went on, no fire training
just running and getting in shape.
I was way too old for camp they wanted me for my back round i repair work and fabrication skills.
Have you ever sat in a garbage disposal? Yep I did but when I made the boss get a lock out and
secure the main before I'd climb in it to work on is when he decided he liked me.

Prison Industry Authority....Self funded, sub-division of CDCR......PIA operates the factories inside prisons.

Actually we had an educational requirement due to factory safety they had to have a GED to work PIA. We weren't 'education', more OTJ vocational training. You would have caught up on all your welding certifications..lol

Maybe its time we heard how the woman who are left behind feel whilst the men are in prison. Worried about reprisals, how you are going to pay the bills and keep a roof over you and your children's head. Wether you will be able to put food on the table and cope with all the neighbours talking about you, wondering wether your husband will have a job to go to when he gets out and wether he's going to leave the reason he went to prison in the first place well alone or continue his vendetta. Its not easy for the people who are not in prison but are left behind to clear up the mess.

I know it is hard on the ones left behind. The last time I went in my lawyer wanted me to bring my kids to court .He thought the judge would go easier on me. I wouldnt allow them to see what I had done. Nor use my kids to get a lighter sentenceMaybe its time we heard how the woman who are left behind feel whilst the men are in prison. I close my eyes when I pass the Top Ramen in the grocery store. Just cant get pass this part of it.

Woody I didn't send them to prison, I wasn't in the courtroom or on the jury, but I could help them get out of prison sooner.......We're both just trying to go home at night & be with our families....I have no animosity towards inmates.....I needed them.....I was one of the few people inside that didn't treat them like a cop......that goes a long ways in there......

I cannot describe the non-verbal communication that went on, when I got out of the hospital after getting stabbed, got dressed & went back to work the next day........I had too, or I never would have gone back.........but that look on her face......I'll never forget it!....one of the worst moments of our 40 year marriage.....yeah prison effects the women too.
