Pro Grow LED 260 170w/ CFL Grow :D

Hey all!

So got my card and i am starting my small personal medical grow in a stealth cabinet.

Currently i have 6 seedlings, 2 Kush, 2 Killing Fields F3, and 2 Herijuana IBL from Sannies Seeds. (hoping for 1 of each to be female at least ;))

Seeds were soaked in water for 24 hours then planted directly into jiffy seedling soil without nutes. Im growing in a cabinet. Used the back side of wrapping paper for mylar.

Originally planned on using cfls, got 10 23W cfls for a total of 230W. Ventilation fan was too loud so i used pc fans. With the door closed it got to 102 :/

SO after much research and much thinking i decided to go with LED. Expensive yes, less producing than same priced HPS yes, however the power savings, bud quality, and most importantly heat made me decide to go this route.

I was between GLH, one or two other companies, and Hydroponicshuts' Pro-grow. After looking around at grows and considering prices i went with the Pro-grow 260.

SO its ordered and on its way :D
Dont know what soil i have (something thats organic with not alot of nutes) ill be using Jacks classic nutes for supplemental nutrients.

Tips, praise, constructive and polite critisicm are all welcomed.
If youve come to bash LEDs  then i suggest you try another thread as i wont dignify your insults with a response.

NOW LET THE GROWING BEGIN!

:?

Hahaha sooooooo i had a bit of a problem, posted in plant problems but ill describe.

Gave my seedlings a bit of nutes (tiny tiny amount but it was too much :/ i was over excited when i got my jacks classic  ) Anyway so i have a bit of nute burn/ possible lockout. ( its brown, purple splotches that end in the leaf turning yellow :/)

Also was having overwatering issues, partly my fault, partly the soil (as i found out later)

I was going to transplant soon anyway and decided to splurge on Fox Farm OF.... Now i know why people love this. My seedling start soil was holding in tons of moisture whereas i can tell already this stuff drains much much better.

The three plants i transplanted all had hit the bottom of the cups and were at various stages of going around the bottom.

(lol $1 dollar pots RC cola is so cheap)
Hoping that the two that were getting nute burn thrive with the more room/better soil and hoping the one thats been super droopy perks up with the better drainage.

3 plants still in party cups; 2 decent ones and the runt. Ill probably run out and get more cola and make another 3 pots because im sure the roots have hit the bottom in the other 2 and maybe itll help the runt catch up.

I was hoping my LED would have gotten here today but i guess itll be here monday. Oh well, another two days of open door/fighting temps and then it will hopefully be smooth sailing with good soil, good light, and good nutes (when theyre ready this time ;) )

Good to have you cannabis! :)

mini-Update, Good news is im learning hands on! Bad news is i fucked up my transplant of Kush 2. Good chance itll die/be stunted :/ when cutting the party cup i failed to cut all the way to the bottom and when i was taking it out i probably pulled half the root mass off :wall:
Arg. Ah well like i said learning process at least.

All the pots are labeled with either strain or strain 2 so i can keep track better and see if any stress causes possible hermies or something down the line. And everything has been transplanted to bigger pots/better soil.

Heres hoping that they all make the transplant and that foxfarm works some miracles.

Might update tomorrow if any die or else ill probably wait for the LED/some more growth.

Title of thread my friend ;)
Pro-Grow 260 (actually draw is 170w so that the LEDs last long/arent driven to hard)
http://hydroponicshut.com/pro-grow-260-watt-led-grow-light.html

Heres a link. Seen some really good grows and they seem to make quality product/provide a warranty. I want the LED because of my temps/situation.

Oh and neither of the two died yet! Although its probably a bit earlier to totally tell, but im going to go ahead and think positively that they all are about to clear up and explode in growth :D

IT CAME!

:hump: Got my light in and shes mighty purty!
Got it all set up and took out all the CFLs.

With the 10 CFLs i was getting temps of 102 with the door shut; door open, fans all on full, and frozen water bottles i was hitting 88.

With the LED door shut, big fan taken out, and no water bottles i get temps at 88 :D
Not quite where i want it but much better :P

Also much less crowded and easier to work with the plants. I let them go 3/4 days without water and they look awesome!, damn i was drowning the babies before :( daddy's sorry!

Now that they actually have some oxygen they are thriving as you can see 4 are doing awesome. Still have two runts but they are slowly getting better.

Also planted one KUSH seed so i can prove to myself that i can get watering right from the start.

Lights been on 5-6 hours now and there is a few small orange spots on the leaves, is this light bleaching already!? I moved the light up another 6-10 inches just to be safe and ill be watching it very closely here in the beginning.

Now its at 18in above the tops of the plants and my temps are at 83 door shut. :D :D

Oh and my diy double sun glasses, was using just the single pair and after i got done setting everything up and went to go watch a movie everything looked green, that inverse spectrum thingy :P but probably better that i use extra light protection.

Nice dude, I've been thinking for getting the 260 mainly for the same reasons as you. I'm glad I now get to see it at work, I'm sub'd. Plants are looking good keep it up.

Good to have you silversun, went to look at your grow and i already looked over it ;) very nice sir.

Yup 260 looks sexy and seems to be putting out crazy powerful light (had it too close and had to move it away). Slightly louder than i thought (like a mid-loud pc fan) but nothing compared to an inline fan or my AC kicking on.

Ill be posting so hopefully i can see and show the power of LEDs and the Progrow.

Word on the sunglasses. At first I wasn't wearing them when I switched to led because at a glance it doesn't appear to be as intense as hps, after a half hour of fucking around in my garden all I could see is dots every time I closed my eyes. Make sure to wear mine all the time now. Infa-red my not be visible to the human eye, doesn't mean it isn't potentially harmful if stared at. Enjoy the 260 buddy. I'm subbed up.

My 2 cents on soil and feeding baby plants. It isn't very expensive - I used and will continue to use Fox Farms Light warrior and Ocean Forest Soil. They have enough inert organic nutes in the mix that (per the instructions on the package) you won't have to apply any additional nutes for at least 30 days. The light warrior is meant for seedlings so I'll typically fill 2/3 the pot up with Ocean forest and the top 1/3 with LW. Helps me prevent accidental nute burn as it gives babies 30 days of light feeding as they grow out of the very fragile and nute sensitive stage of their lives. I can usually wait until at least day 30 if not more before I add any supplemental nutes. Sounds like I work for Fox Farm I know, but I don't, just haven't had burnt babies since I found this mix.

No i hear you, foxfarm has really good drainage and water retention ive noticed (perfect amount). Havent picked up light warrior but for my kush seedling i put a super thin layer of OF bunch of seed start another thin layer seed starter another thing layer and seed starter. Mostly seed starter but a little bit of OF just for some nutes before i have to transplant :P

Good to have you Hos :P Your LED is one of my favorite journals
Checked this morning, temps between 82-87 and all the plants look awesome! The runts are even perking up. But i think i did just barely singe them with the lights being at 12/13" in initially. Oh well now i know, Because Knowledge is power!

Thanks for the kind words sir :) I love to see experiments and diversity in everything, its how we progress! Plants are looking awesome (dark green leaves Partially the light spectrum? )

Anyway switched to 12/12 today because i need everything chopped, dried, and curing without burping by a certain date and i want to have enough flowering time for my sativas.

Ill take pictures during their day and get some pics posted later tonight. Oh and i have questions on breeding/IBL if anyone has knowledge of this field :P

Hey all,

Like i said switched to 12/12 last night despite their small size because i want to be done and cured by a certain point.

Although they are hardly over 3" they are all very bushy. Up to 5 (with 6th coming out)nodes on my best plant.

Any thoughts on LST? i know generally its done in veg but would it be of benefit in flowering with the stretch or should i just let them grow normally?
Also whats a purple stem mean? not the main one but a couple of branches are purple while others are green (just pheno or is this sign of a slight problem?)

My plan was to wait until they show sex in 7-10 days hopefully and then cull the males and transplant the females into final pots.

Everybody looks super healthy and loving the LED, temps are great.
Still havent given them nutes as im a little gun shy now. Figured i would let them get a little bigger before hitting them again.

Any suggestions are welcomed or else keep watching ;)

Need some advice,

So im 2/3 days into 12/12 and everything is looking good and healthy but...

a couple of the stems (one plant in particular) have bright red stems. (see pic below)
Ive read this could be first sign of nute def?

On further inspection i have noticed that it seems to be mainly the top of the stems that are exposed to direct light. Is this the LED "sun burning" them???? They look healthy so should i just keep going? Raise the light? Its currently at 18"

Theyre in FFOF but i have yet to give them any more nutes. Should i hit them up with some Jacks veg? Or go ahead and give them flowering?

Also any opinions on if i should LST or not?

its not burning them, you need to add some N heavy fertilizer. You know me - I'm fox farms all the way. Growing with leds is a bit different, at least from what I've noticed in nute uptake, compared to HID. I think your light is at the proper distance. You'll want to add some nitrogen, calcium, and magnesium to the mix. What are you feeding them right now? I was using FF Tiger Bloom combined with Cal Mag. Kept mine green. You will want to address this problem soon though man. It can get out of hand quickly. Here is a super helpful link

Aside from the red stems, looking pretty nice buddy.

LEDs for growing are absolutely brilliant. I've personally seen some amazing results using a setup very similar to you have here BlazedMonkey. The plants really enjoyed all of the red wavelengths creating an end product was some of the most dense and THC covered buds I've gazed upon. Smart move with the sunglasses, they are definitely required when looking into an LED filled closet. Best of luck!
