I started growing recently and have always had trouble with nute burn. I got pretty good at flushing/managing it with very successful end results
so I know I did something right, I thought I really learned from my mistakes and knew exactly what I was doing wrong, but with the new batch in my flowering room I am having the same issues and suspect the Pro-Mix. I use Pro-Mix BX, which is most common in my area, my water is reverse-osmosis measuring 0.00ec, and after I add any nutes/carbs I make sure the pH is between 5.8 and 6.2.
Example: I took a seedling that was flourishing in pro-mix in a 1/2 gallon pot. All it was ever fed was clonex solution, then a very mild .5ec veg mix, and water. I transplanted it into a 3 gallon pot filled with fresh pro-mix moistened with a combination of Root66 and Thrive Alive at a very low .5ec. I flushed it 3 days later with a mix of water and Sugar Daddy .5ec and 5.8pH, measured the drain, and it was at 3.9ec!!! This plant still looked healthy, so I flushed it with around 3 gallons of the sugar mix, got the ec drain below 1.0, and added a mild bloom mix at ec .7.
I decided to test the Pro-Mix. I had another 3 gallon pot filled with pro-mix pre moistened with transplant mix at .6ec and 5.8ph. This one had no plant in it yet - just Pro-Mix and the low ec mix. I poured some of the sugar mix and the drain was 3.85ec!!!
Do I know nothing about growing in Pro-Mix?
What am I missing? Are you not suppossed to test the drain and expect results similar to hydro? ...and if you can't test the drain how do you know if your plants are feeding or dying? I have had very very wacky ec measurements in Pro-Mix. Plants that never got fed anything above ec 1.0 have leaves curling under. Any help or wisdom would be much much appreciated!
