I've heard of the water globes, maybe I can make one of these for my shitty clay soil cause it wouldnt drain quickly like Cobra said. And I'm only gonna use some simple amendments.

I have used things similar to these clay stakes before. You just screw a water bottle into the top or whatever and stick em in your pot. They keep the soil surprisingly moist and they did a good job when i used em
also if you just visit any old gardening store in your area they will have them
