you need to know the p.h of your water also and i never leave my water open to evaproate the chlorine it dosent matter if your water is good.
you can buy a cheap soil tester for testing both moisture and soil p.h at the same time it just depends where you live.mine cost £20 and is ideal and if your unsure about your water ph you can buy a p.h test kit from a fish/pet shop for about £8 and it will give up to 50 tests for testing water sources.
i use mineral/spring bottled water if you look at the labels on these spring/mineral waters it will show you the p.h. on the label.i use VOLVIC NATURAL MINERAL WATER its p.h. is a perfect 7.0.
here is my combi soil p.h and moisture tester.

awesome, thanks ludacris. also, i retract my previous statement about not thinking its a cotyledon. after further inspection, im thinking it MIGHT be, but i have never seen a set of cot's have so much fuzz/hair on it..i will definitely check out some pet shops here and see if i can find a cheap ph tester. thanks again

I've had this problem (or something like it) when starting seeds. I honestly figured it was mold (and my white fuzzy things developed after 2-3 days.) All I did was this... let it dry out A LITTLE.. meaning take the top off of it... (saran wrap or a germination dome) and let air get to it. Then I put it under 4- 40watt neon grow tubes. It litterally went away in 2 days and the plant grew up to be a big strong girl.. and she tasted pretty damn good. :) becareful to not let it dry out too much... that'll kill her at this point in time. If it is mold, the air and UV light from the lamps will kill it off pretty quickly. (Knowing how and why things work is my profession and UV light will kill mold!!) Don't move her around... You'll kill her that way to.

Side note... and I'm sure that Ill have a BUNCH of people writing to me on here saying oh your wrong your wrong.... but oh well... The paper towel method of germination... sucks!! It does work yes... Not denying that.. but it is THE MOST stressfull way to germinate a seed!!!! The method I ALWAYS use is soaking them in water for 24 hours... and then planting them. (and whomever said 1/2" is too deep is correct.)Some people say you should always plant them pointed side down.. and others say rounded side... Truth is... EVERY SEED IS DIFFERENT!!! I have done them both ways... and sometimes it pops up quicker.. and sometimes I get a root that needs to work its way back down into the media (soil or rockwool etc) There is no way to pick up a seed and say.. well this seed needs to be planted this way because this is how the root is going to pop out... yea.. ok...

If ANYONE wants to argue with that... Think about this... When a human is born.. you are supposed to come out of your mother head first... so what about breech births?? Nature has a way of correcting herself - and I am living proof. I came out ass first - Told the world to kiss my ass from day 1 !!!! LOL

Good Luck!! Oh.. and keep her warm too!!!

this is true but instead of pre soaking the seeds just plant them into the medium and water over.(plant the seeds 5-7mm deep)
this way the taproot will always grow downwards however you plant it.

plant sprouted today. the hairy part is still in the pot so, idk wtf it is. im pretty sure its part of the root like i had thought before. the sprout is the best looking one i have so far. the cotyledons on all the other ones are a little yellow, but this one is all green :D

the cotyledons start of yellowish and then turn green.
they will eventually die and fall off naturally.

31* is too hot.
but i see what you mean in pic 1.
it does look like a tap root.either let it be or if it was me i would just cover it with soil and all will come good.
the second last pic is exactly how cotleydons should look.
all looks good mate.
(never got my rep???).

you just need to be patient and see what transpires.
starting over is a sign of impatience and worry.
just let them be forget about them and water and all will be good.
i check my plants once a day for 2 mins and dont really care about them if all is good.
overstressing is the newbies biggest mistake.

definately.
i am the most impatient sucker when it comes to anything.
i fucked up a couple of times before i got with it and when its done you will be well proud.
i have speeded this grow up dramatically by going 24/0 and starting straight under my 400w h.p.s. it was a risk skipping my c.f.ls to start out with but i dont stress about anything anymore now i know how its done.

this seed was planted on the 3rd sprouted on the 7th and its now the 16th and the seedling now had 10 leaves.
this grow seems to be going rapid compared to last time.
(skunk special).

im on 4th set, because i been on the 24/0 since birth ive had a lot of side growth2, so i have the usual normal sets of leaves plus new side shoots, on the 19th im changing to 18/6 to get some upward growth or shes gunna end up to bushy, if its to bushy lght penetration might come a problem!!

im using 4x18w cfl 2warm 2cool white for veg 400w hps for flower, BIGBUD.
