Hi guys and gals,
I'm quite new to this game but been reading a lot, my first indoor grow (Lemon Autoflower in coco) has been smooth so I wanted to spice things up this time with rockwool and hydroponics under DIY LED. But first thing first, I built a nursery for my girls:
Open box 2x1x1 , heatsink is a recycle CPU fan, lamp is 4x Citizen CLU028-1203C4 3500K at 10w each, 40w total. Lighting schedule is automatically controlled by smart switch.
Started a grow journal in sheet style, data is self-explanatory:
1./ At 8:45 Sep 29th:
5 seeds started in shot glasses filled with water, all 5 were floating. Seeds were purchased shortly prior in one order from a good reputation seed bank so I believe they're not old.
2./ At 17:00 Sep 30th:
All 5 showed taproots and immediately transplanted into grow medium tray.
Medium tray is a 12 slots numbered 1 to 12 as shown. I put 03 seeds were put into coco pellets number 1, 3 and 6. Two remaining seeds were put into rockwool blocks (blocks were prepared with ph 5.5 water, no nutrient at all). Left the humidity dome on inside a dark cup board. Temp inside cup board is 80-83 F. Lighting was 16/8 under 50W CFL.
3./ At 09:00 Oct 4th:
Put the medium tray into nursery: no humidity dome, HEPA fabric cover to support air exchange, grow light is a CRI 90 Citizen LED COB 40W 3500K, dimmable to 7000 lux at canopy. Temp read 75-82F, RH 70%.
All three seedlings in coco pellets progressed really well. Sturdy stems, healthy looking cotyledons. Took effort to not overwatering them, only misting when coco coir dried out.
The other two in rockwool blocks however, weren't doing as well:
[11] Jack Herer had cotyledons but very small, look wilted and not opened fully. Her root seems longer so I left her there.
[9] Gorilla Glue Auto just grown taproot a bit longer and not developed cotyledons.
4./ At 01:00 Oct 06th (today):
Seedlings in coco coir were left alone as they're developing nicely. [1] Critical Aufoflower even shows three cotyledons.
Seedlings in rockwool however took a worse turn:
[11] Jack Herer cotyledons were brownish at the tip and still very small, not opened further. Move to [8] for better lighting coverage.
[9] Gorilla Glue Auto shown no progression, seed cover still on and medium felt dried so I gently removed her from rockwool block for close inspection. After that, I decided to nurse her back by putting her into a new coco pellet in slot [7] . Her root is not tangled up into rockwool so it's very easy.
At this stage, I decide it's out of my hands so I would very much appreciate your advices. Should I removed the sickly Jack Herer from rockwool and put into aeroponics cloner with collar around the stem? Or try to remedy the situation instead?
Lighting stays at 7000 lux (can increased to 50,000-70,000 lux at maximum), temp range 75-82F with RH hover at 65-75% so I believe the setup is good enough. Beside, all three coco seedlings are doing well in the same medium tray. What could be wrong with rockwool, did I overwater them (blocks feel moist but not dripping wet).
I would like to help them survive and try my hands at hydroponics, the end product is not a priority, after all, I love tinkering and solving problem, growing experience and all that.
