i keep germinated plants until they are about 3 inches and 1 set of 2 leaves i put them in a pot of soil and put them under my desk light about 4 inches away from the light i give them plenty of water but not too much i have a 10 inch box fan about a foot away from them


they keep dying
what am i doing wrong or what else do i have to do so they wont die?

im only doing one plant at a time
and i just stuck a new one in about 5 minutes ago:blsmoke:
help me out =]

Incadescent, meaning a normal light bulb. Not flourescent.

I'm guessing that's what it is and that wont work. Go to a store and buy a $10 42 watt (200W equivalent) 'daylight' CFL bulb.

If you dont understand what that means then please, please, do some reading on these boards.

Also, you probably want to water them way less than what seems right. If they're in a plastic cup sized container water it until water trickles out the bottom (your container needs drainage holes) then stop. Do this every 4-5 days.

ive done lots of reading but the lighting is my only problem its hard to under stand
and yeah i jus got a regular bulb
so ill go get a flourescent bulb

Alright then if you switch to a flouro bulb I think you'll be ready to go and surprised at how your next seedling does.

Try to get the biggest one they have (as long as it'll fit in your lamp) and make sure it's labled as 'daylight' and not something like 'soft white' or 'warm white'

and get it closer than 4in. you can have that light within an inch if there's no heat problem which there shouldn't be with a fan right there.

Don't use the same dirt each time. If you have a fungus in the soil, it could also be killing your plant. (Damping off) So if this one doesn't take, ditch the dirt and get new soil. I had a lot of problems with my seedlings, until if figured that out.

I get you, but he may not (double entendre).

Email means: get as many fluorescent lights as you can.
