My grow box is 2.5x2.5x1. I have 4 23wat (100watt equivalent) CFL's in there, with three plants in gallon containers. I thought the temperature was fine since it stayed @ 80 from Sunday to yesterday night in the box w/ the doors closed w/ a tiny gap. I didn't factor that as the bulbs run longer, the hotter they become, and that Sunday and yesterday were relatively cool days. Today was 10 degrees hotter, so of course it was hotter in my garage, and the lights had now been running 48 hours. So I was surprised when I came home to check on them, and the temp was in the low 90's. I rushed to walmart and bought a mini fan that I mounted on the wall that sort of hits the bulbs as well as the plants, for circulation and to vent.
Left it running in there and it seemed to just spread the heat, as the temps were even hotter than before, at mid 90s.
Should I just crack the door open more for more ventilation, or is there a better way to cool the box down? I'm thinking of switching to an 18-6 cycle just so the bulbs have the time to cool down, and the plants have time to cool down as well.. Also I put in a cup full of ice when I put the fan into the box, for humidity and to maybe help cool..but it didn't help either.
Any help would be appreciated.
