problems germinating

Ive had the seeds in paper towel for 4 days now and there are no signs of life
im not sure if they are too old because i found them at my dad's house and he had no idea how long they had been there some are light cream color and some are nearly black so im not sure if its a mix of plants or just different color seeds of the same strain.

one seed has sorta popped but it looks hollow inside it hasn't cracked along the side of the seed, its just got a big hole in it.

are my seeds worthless or do i just have to wait some more:-|

oh and one more thing, compact fluorescents are $20 a globe Here in Australia for 23W what a RIP! sry just had to add that

Thanks for the info, I think you got me mixed with the OP. I guess I better check on my seeds in the cloest. I wasnt going to peak at them for another day.

Can seeds be left longer to germinate if say you were not ready to put them in the ground ?

o my bad shady, but yea ive forgot about germinating seeds befor an found them later with like a 4in long lil root thing an the 2 small round first set of leaves but they were ugly and all tangelled in the paper towel

god damn that is a rip 42watts are like 10.somthing at walmart here

I looked at some Australian lighting shops and there only about $1-2 cheaper, ill check eBay :S for 6 its going to be about $120, I can get a 400W HPS ballast, reflector, globe holder and a globe for that much on eBay. but not very good for veg.
i have a setup for T5 light which are 4ft long and are 42W but the don't fit in my grow closet about a 2 inches too big could i have my lights running long ways along each side of the plant?

it would be an odd setup but it would be better than CFL's

so anyone else got any idea about the seeds? They are now at the end of their 5th day in the paper towel, still no developments.

We have 10 or 12 seeds that also haven't really done anything. One of them sprouted I guess so we planted it in soil. But the others..still nothing!!
