Problems when away from your plants

Unfortunately my flowering room is an hour away from where I live. That means I can't always be there, I can only check on them twice a week if that. I often have power surges in my area and would like to invest in something that would be a back up for my plants in case the electric fails for one 1000 watt HPS and AC wall unit and fans.

I was away for five days once and came back to a dangerously hot room because my light stayed on yet the AC turned off. Saw first hand the hardships of not always being in a controlled environment. Definitely a fire hazard

Is there any such technology to assist in this? Or maybe even better is there any equipment that will notify someone when lights or AC are on or off from afar?

Anyone else have problems similiar to this where they live? Thanks

5 pages back already damn. still could use some help!!
Best I came up with was installing a webcam and pointing it at a thermometer allowing me to check the temp all times of the day from a computer in my home. Could this even work? Still would want a battery backup if possible

My brother has equipment for his marine tank that allows him to control various aspects remotely via PC. I'm pretty sure I've heard of a similar setup for a grow room, with humidity/temperature controls etc which comes with software for your PC. I'm not sure where you would purchase it from or the cost involved. I'm sure someone here could be more specific.

People with MONEY have there whole house set up to a laptop that controlls everything from a distance. Say they are on there way home and want the hot tub on, well they turn it on from a distance.
The technology is out there and the cost is UP there.

my problem was'nt lights when i was away for 7 days. them dam spider mites got me.

You could always setup a wireless web cam which can be accessed from anywhere in the world, it will not alow you to control the op remotely but at least you know what is happening in your grow area at all times. I think I need one...

You want to invest in something that will be a backup to your 1000 watt flowering light and all related growing electronics?

You need a 2-3000 watt generator and whatever equipment and expertise needed to place in your your power flow so it kicks on as the main power kicks off.

Your talking thousands of dollars and professional installation.

Excellent ideas. Yeah I think the wireless cam pointed at the thermometer would be the most efficient and cheapest way to check temps and monitor the lights from afar. When its night time for the plants this wouldn't be of much assistance though. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah the generator idea is for too extensive for what I require. thanks for mentioning it though.
