Prolonging Vegetative Growth

A while ago I was talking to a friend of mine that has a pretty genuine familiarity with the sacred bush and grows medicinally. I asked him how long a plant would stay in the vegetative stage if you kept it on an 18/6 to 24hr. light schedule. He said it would probably keep on growing indefinitely, but wasn't absolutely sure as he'd never done it before. Figuring it kept a constant rate of growth, you could make some pretty monstrous shrubs, but would it just peak out eventually? Or would the plant eventually die, even without inducing the flowering stage? Anyone have experience with this?

mother plants............... you can keep them indefinetly in veg.

keep vegging for bigger bushes, then flower if you want big plants.

Ah of course, should've thought of that. He continues mother strains through clones rather than keeping one plant as such, so it slipped our minds. So is bud growth evenly filled on a plant left to veg then flowered? Or does it stretch out like industrial hemp?

It would grow until it became so big, it couldnt support its own weight. Ive videos of plants grown outdoors in CA for an entire season that were close to 10 feet tall.

You wont get the answer you are looking for because no on keeps a mother for very long because it gets too big. Now that it is legal (medicinally) in many states, im sure there are a few people growing a plant just to see how long they can keep it alive. I know when my state comes out of the dark ages i will.

Could you imagine the harvest from a 15 foot plant with 200+ nodes?!?

I'm curious about a similar topic... between the top of my pots to the lights when they are all the way up i have just over 5 feet and im trying to decide how much longer i should veg. If you guys could check out my thread and give me some insight that would be great. thanks

That's what I was thinking. If you let the plant veg and just kept pruning tips, couldn't you let a plant bush out? Kind of like growing your hair out for a while and trimming it so it's all even.

I've seen people use something to the effect of nylon twine as supports for grows with a lot top heavy plants, though. They just string them across rows and tie them to the stalks.

iv read a couple places that the longer you veg you plant the more time it has to build up the resins in it making a stronger bud into flowering...

and if your plants is 5 ft now and still in veg....
be ready for it to dbl/trpl in size when u put it into 12/12
and its a weed... it wont stop growing till it dies...

Do you mean sugars it needs to produce resin? I thought resin was only produced after the flowering stage had been induced.
