Actually cutting down the speed on some fans will make them louder.I was advised by a guy at the hydro shop that some inline fans are quite loud, so you could get a size bigger and cut the fan down to 50% to reduce noise, you'd just need a duct reducer.

I've looked at many a fans, and none of them has provided the db's, but I guess I've been looking at small ones.Any manufacture should have a statement like:
Speed Controllable: Yes
also look for db rating or the IMO subjective SONES rating

It was that fan, they said if I got that instead of the 6" and cut it down to half speed it would be quieter. No, it's not marketing, they save me money wherever they can, they're good people
