propogation system

Whats up ppl. We just ordered a propogation system with rock wool cubes to start germinating our seeds. I wanted to know if while we have them in the propogation tray, should we have the lights on?help me out.

The quickest way I have found to germinate is to get some kitchen paper towel about 5 sheets and two plates the same size. put three paper towels on top of one plate and put it under warm water for a second to get the towels wet and then put your seeds on top, get the 2 remaining dry paper towels and put them on top of the seeds and wet paper towels.
The dry ones will soak up the excess water and then put the other plate on top to cover it over and keep it dark, and put it away in a dark cupboard that is room temperature.
After 36 hours check on the seeds see if they have sprouted if they havent cover them back up and see if they need a little more warm water.
If they have sprouted make a hole in the top of your rockwool cube about 5 ml deep and just wide enough to get the seed in and put it in so the taproot faces into the rockwool, then cover over with wet rockwool place them in the propagtor and have your light on above.
When they are ready they will push the rockwool up then remove and let them enjoy your homemade sunshine.

Oh and as a side note presoak your rockwool cubes for a few days and keep an eye on the ph level and adjust it as rockwool cubes are apparently quite alkaline. From experience grodan are.

i believe you soak them in a ph of 5.5 and before putting the seed in rinse with ph of 7. at least that's how grodan tells you to do it.

When they are 'infants', in the rockwool for the first time, are you guys using nutrient mixes at that time or do you let them go in the propagator for a while in just plain (ph adjusted) water?

Good question. Opinions may vary on this. I use a root stimulant and Dark Energy. Some use a diluted bloom solution. I didn't like the rockwool. I use Rapid Rooters instead. The are a little smaller and youo don't need to do anything to them except put the seed in.

leave you're lights on 24 hours for the first week or so... then go to 18/6 untill there ready to flower

I followed the advise of Jorge Cervantes (author of Marijuana Horticulture) and soaked my seeds for 12 hrs in plain tap water and used 1 paper towel folded in half and I kept the temp at 74F. He says that tap water has all the nutes it needs for the first week or so. I have soft water with a high PH and it made me worry (its my first grow) them little fuckers had a tail over a quarter inch in 24 hrs. I planted them in peed pots with spring water and the little shits are trying to pop out of the top of the soil within 24hrs. It may be a fluke, it may be the high grade WW seeds from nirvana-shop, or it may be that its a weed and they have a good nature to survive. I will tell you right up front its not skill lol. I was real nervous because my seeds were kinda expensive and I have never done it before but after the fact its not that big of a deal just jump in and try it.
