Pro's and Con's of having a no physical contact friendly relationship?

Like internet buds. Does having never met someone but constantly communicating with them have beneficial consequences otherwise unattainable through more traditional style friendships? Perhaps negative?

What do you think?

Good in some ways. You have distance and space from them and eliminate the potential of a physical encounter ruining it. But I'm a very physical, affectionate creature. I need sniffs, nuzzles, licks and warmth beside me. Sometimes I prefer not to use words at all and show how much I care through grooming or sharing my food.

I have only ever been able to talk about my emotions with people I met online... but I'm a pretty weird dude and I had known them for years before ever talking about anything personal *shrug*

Edit: forgot to mention that it definitely had the pros of keeping me sane and alive :) well mostly sane.

Like as in webcam with a friend instead of hanging out? I did that when my friend moved halfway across the world.

I think it had a benefit of keeping him (and me) from going insane. Shit was fucked up at the time.

Sure, sometimes an indirect message is easier on the conscious than face to face.
The answer to the question has so many directions .. depends on what you look for, or what you expect to get ..

Positive: I spoke to this girl online.. we bonded, spoke on the phone,we had so much to talk about (she had a "thick" voice) ..
Negative: I went to meet her at her apartment, ring, a skinny chic, and a HUGE chic walk out ... :wall: the end.

Meeting someone online has a lot of pluses.

You can comfortably converse with him/her.
You can flirt.

The two above build confidence and an apportunity to meet.
