Pros and Cons of Soil

Let us assume we are using our good top of the line preferd brand of soil for this.

What are the pros and cons of soil?

I know people say taste is improved and can make buds tighter which can improve yield.

Other people say it locks roots if not maintained, not enough air, and lower yield then hydro because of lack of air.

What do you think?

theirs good and bad with both i personally grow in soil theres not much difference in weight but the grow shops and the product makers will tell you you can double your crop with hydro lmao they just want your money you do get slight diferance in taste but not all time think its down to the grower neuts, i used to use tomatoe feed the weed was strong but taste was never right until started using canna products then the flavour was spot on so the taste thing is probably to do wi feed use biobizz range now they spot on too its down to personal choice and experiance
 
i have heard when soil is done properly it produces the finest cannabis but hydro is faster and yield is a bit better. i have never grown hydro for comparison so i cant say. it would be interesting to see a side by side comparison same strain lights etc..:joint:
 
i believe it mainly has to do with like you said oxygen levels and controlling nutrient levels temp and ph easily and quickly:joint:
 
i was going to do that soil n hydro side by side see differance but would not be fair on hydro as i am mainly soil grower done a loads of grows in soil only done 2 hydro crops went back to soil lol
 
For me it's simple...Hydro is for the ones selling the weed, Soil is for the ones smoking it LOL (No offence hydro growers, it's just a saying around here lol)
 
Its like anything else, if done properly either will do good. I think you can manipulate hydro a lot more, but really soil is the most forgiving method and will produce great stuff if done right. The man thing with soil is drainage in the bottom of the container so you don't get root rot, and I have a coat hanger that I poke and drag through the soil around the roots to aerate the soil. Do that once a week through all stages and it gets sufficient air to the roots and keeps the soil at a good consistency. :joint:
 
in soil alot of people on here water once every2 or 3 days i water twice a day veg once a day through flower little and often this sorts the oxygen thingout its a lot of messing about but i like to grow that way if ya get it wright they grow same speed as a hydro i have been soil growing 4 nearly 20 years if ya know wat ya doing theirs not much differance at all just personal choice
 
nice, so this is deff making me go soil, i'm just looking to enjoy my own bud and stop paying for inconsistent bud. I just have to understand and start some hardcore reading on nutes and ph, all those numbers throw me for a loop. Don't know why it just doesn't click easy.

I grow both and much prefer aero or hydro. Heres why. soil takes 3-4 times as long,smaller yields,more mess,alot more labor intensive, harder to grow in soil,hydro easier to correct issues,less to clean up and dispose of for aero/hydro,hydro bigger yields and better taste, hydro and soil are alot less work intensive and you can leave for days if need be and not really worry. I find soil makes a denser plant but buds are lot leafier and overall yield is alot less when you can get 3-4 harvests in the time of one soil grow.Hydro aero cheaper also
 
from personal experience i wuld say hands down hydro is better, if u have the time and oney for it. I personally dont think that hydro is worth ir for anything smaller then 12 plants to much work ontop of a busy day already, soil id by far much easier to grow in but hydro produces a much better product (when done right) over soil. as for nutes and such. Very easy to understand.

Ill start off with a few keywords

What is PH?
pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are considered acidic, while those with a pH greater than seven are considered basic (alkaline). pH 7 is defined as neutral because it is the pH of pure water at 25 °C


What kind of nutes should i use?what do the numbers mean?

The numbers that nutes are rated with are refeced to as N-P-K
Nitrogen, phosphate, potassium - symbols for the three primary nutrients needed by plants

Early veg\rooting
18-0-1 nute (you will mostly find 15-0-0 which is perfectly ok)
b1 foiler spray for rooting

use the 18-0-1 [through veg. from when 2nd set of leaves are popped]
Preflower 1-38-18 [1-2 weeks before you cut to 12/12 lighting]
flowering 14-8-19 [from when you cut to 12\12 lighting]
rippining 1-38-18 [2 weeks before harvest]

Key facts!
PH should be 6.0 6.8 (6.3 is ideal)
Lights on temp: 70-85 (78)
Lights off temp 58-69 (66)
try to maintain a low humidity.

i have always heard hydro yields well. but even my hydro shop guy was pro soil if it is for your own smoke. cant beat nature the one thing hydro looses is the interaction of bacteria's and fungus at the root level which effect nutrient uptake and taste.:joint:
 
how the hell can you grow 3 to 4 crops on hydro in the time it takes to grow 1 soil crop i grow in soil 2-3 week in veg 7-9 week in flower so how do you grow and flower 4 hydro grows in 10 to 12 week your tellin me you veg and flower a crop in 21 days lmao or do you mean outdoor in soil then yea it takes ages but indoor is about same time yea you can go away wi hydro but if owt gose wrong with the electrics or pump when ya cum bak ya wont have a crop
 
It's compulsory at our school to take a hydroponics course for one semester. During our term last year, a mate of myne used his own hydroponic system he made in class and got a pretty decent yield. I'm not sure about how much better/worse it is compared to soil but I DO know hydro worked well for him.
 
check out biobizz range oh yea if it was quicker to grow on hydro why would biobizz show same grow time for soil hydro aero or are they wrong too and all the university studies guess they are wrong too

hydro is great if its your thing not knocking it to say its 3-4 times faster per crop is funny as fuk i just prefer soil
 
Thanks Thebigak, I was thinking the same when i read 3-4 times faster then soil. I'm also looking to make myself the best bud possible with flavor and also wouldn't mind a nice yield. I plan on putting an air pump in my soil to give air directly to the roots so that should hopefully help with yield. :blsmoke:
