Are there any special methods for pruning (topping) for hydro gardens. All of the information I have read (including the FAQ's) seem to illude to soil growing. Thanks for your input :?

I am currently in week two of a hydro grow. after doing my research I started to clip the biggest leaves (4 in and longer) only a few at a time don't want to stress out the plant. you cut the leafs steam only at the half way point. If you do your search you'll find photo's that show you what to do. clip only from the top to allow the light to reach the bottom part of the plant. peace meng.

******* I HAVE A PROBLEM TOO****** MY PLANT IS IN WEEK TWO OF THE FLOWING STAGE AND ABOUT 3 FT HIGH (FROMT HE BASE OF THE PLANT), MY 4002 hps LIGHT IS INSIDE A FIXTURE FIXTURE WITH HEAT CONTROL VENTS THAT I HAVE A FAN CAN ON. THE PROBLEM IS THIS IS MY FIRST GROW AND I THINK I ALLOWED MY PLANT TO GET TO TALL DURING THE MONTH LONG VEG STAGE, BECAUSE MY PLANT IS TOUCHING THE GLASS BOTTOM OF THE FIXTURE AND I CANT RAISE THE LIGHT ANY HIGHER! WHAT SHOULD I DO??????????????? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP...

Oh- I'm a newbie (2nd grow). I am still figuring it out- not a troubleshooter. I also have "low/no" heat llights so I dont have to deal with that sort of stuff. BUT... based on my limited knowledge there is a ?? in the FAQ about tieing down (or using a trellis) to try to control the height.

dont forget plan will stretch when you start to flower so you need to do something fast!! Maybe check out no heat lights at www.stealthhydroponics.com

hope it helps

sunshinegirl, the important thing to remember with hydro is that it grows much faster than soil. The pruning info for soil plants you found will work fine as long as you take into account the difference in growth. ie. if it sais to top 3 weeks into veg than you should probably top at 2 weeks etc. get my point?
Personally, i top twice during veg, the first about 2 weeks into veg and the 2nd about 3 1/2 weeks into veg or a week before 12/12 (avoids stressing the plant)

Jase, i had the same problem occuring except the problem was that 2 of my ladies which i didnt top were growing way taller than the others.

An easy solution to the problem is to supercrop those bitches!! simply find a spot on the stem (wherever you want the top of your plant to be after breaking its neck). Squeeze the stem so that it pops or gives a little, than slowly bend at the joint and make a right angle with the plants stem. Its actually used for greater yield because the other budsites on the cola get more light and not just the top bud..After a day or so the buds begin to grow towards the light and wallah! heres a pic of a lady i supercropped about 2 weeks into flower due to height eveness issues.

peace :peace:
