Pure THC and/or CBD Extraction?

I'm no chemistry expert, but i don't see why one couldnt extract pure THC. Perhaps it would require so many steps, and most find THC alone to not be so wonderful, compared to THC plus other cannabinoids.

Based on that thread, tenner posted, i think the way to do it would be to make a tincture, and then drop that into PG or glycerin for that cartridges/ cartomizer.

Yeah THC solo is not very gentle. It has a synergy with the other components of the plant. And while most of the THC is in the trichomes it is still found throughout the plant, along with lots of other fun stuff. On top of that, not the entire trichome is active, a thin layer of cellulose can be seen sometimes after an alcohol wash that retains the original shape.

A friend of mine synthed pure THC from Olivetol, not a great time. It got me super high, but it was the most neurotic high I have ever had. Not recommended. My favorite high is from a isomerized oil from an alcohol wash, which was purified by extraction with an organic solvent. After a GC/MS it came back ~70%THC:~15%CBD:~15%impurities.

I agree with NP88, make the oil(isomerize or not) tincture it with alcohol. Add that to your PEG or Glycerine and drip into your cartridge. I don't know how necessary it is to dry but it can be done pretty easily. Use an anhydrous EtOH, or 99% IPA, and heat your solution for removal of alcohol. I may get one and use my mechanical desiccant to dryout the cartridge.

Pure THC is extremely hard to extract, not to mention unfruitful. The amount of wasted material is amazing when trying to get a pure THC.

I don't remember the process off hand but out of 1 lb of mids I got maybe 1/4g of THC oil. It didn't solidify and I lost alot when I was trying to get it into a vessel.

Probably other essental oils that make up the rest of the trichome gland, but are not psychoactive chemicals...


SO I was thinking BHO isn't really any pure cannabinoid... and the only "pure" THC i have ever seen is Marinol, which is synthetic...

So we should have SOME way to extract ONE chemical out of an organic substance yes?

That is exactly the thought process i am in...There has to be a way to wash BHO down to a pure-er form....

they can it's called Supercritical fluid extraction (thanks again Crypt) and impossible to do in a home setting...it requires a critical pressure of 74 bar, which is crazy...think of it this way, 1 bar = 14.5psi

Compare this with ethanol. We could get theoreticaly pure ethanol. Now, what would we do with it? You don't want to drink it straight, it is Horrible, upsets your stomach and hurts your mouth, so, what do you do with it? you dilute it. I don't know anyone who enjoys drinking anything over about 50 percent pure, so.... why concentrate (extract) it only to dilute it again? I just can't see the need for anything stronger than oil.

according to what i read the oil needs to be thinned to be vaped...the guy on the other forum makes a glycerin extraction and uses that straight...I am confused again..lol, it will come down to trial and error on this one

i couldn't bother to read through this whole thing.... I just had to say that dispensaries in Hollywood sell e-cig clycerine ready to go. I believe they might use bho and glycerin. just when you think you had a new idea, right?

The most potent THC extracts are made through supercritical CO2 extraction. I purchased 1/2 grams of it in a dispensary for 65$

I got so many people high over two weeks with just one gram.. and I smoke quarters of weed... This shit lasted two weeks.. Hitting it made you feel like nitrous and many almost passed out.. I'm talking real serious old stoners.. we all almost passed out.. It is great.. Put that in your e-cig.

I have drank 99% ethanol, dehydrated from azeotrope with Anhydrous Magnesium Sulphate(epsom salts) then distilled. I found it relaxing, a tad rough on the mouth and throat but no worse than say Buckley's. I would never drink more than a couple of shots in a day, plus it tends to climb the walls of my beakers in search of water when I pour .

As far as the cartridge goes the way to do it would be to dissolve BHO or supercritcal CO2 extract in some PG or glycerin. You might need a little ethanol to help dissolve it (I don't know the solubility of thc in PG or glycerin offhand). As far as extracting THC, BHO or CO2 are really the way to go. Extracting only active cannabinoids would be far more trouble that it's worth. You'd have to start with an extract and then use chromatography to purify it. Considering extracts typically are >75% thc/cbd/other cannabinoids, you would quite probably lose more than you gained. Do you really need something stronger than that anyway?
