Maybe it is not supposed to be shared, but well, you know how that goes. It's like the secret that people swear never to tell .. and then do. Unless he was lied to about what it was, or unless he is lying to me, a friend that lives about half way between Colorado Springs and Pagosa Springs Colorado says he has a Grand Daddy Purple mother .. so if he's telling the truth evidently someone broke the keep it in Cali only rule. Maybe he got it from one of the medicinal marijuana dispensaries in Colorado that are offering it, or at least when you look online they claim to be offering it.

But clone only form or not it had to be created at some point and that was by crossing Purple Erkle x Big Bud.

What you said, unless I misunderstood it, sounds like ANOTHER Cali. myth where Cali. people want and need to claim certain strains are limited to them and to them alone. I have a friend in Northern Cali. and according to him strains that I know for sure that people in other parts of the country have exist only in Cali.

GDP clones are available across California. Not sure if they are the original, or just a PE x BB mix, or some bullshit...

Everything I find about GDP, even from Cali., says it's Purple Urkle X Big Bud.

Grand Daddy Purple aka GDP Plant Information


Lineage: Purple Urkle x Big Bud
Type: Indica
Flowering Time: 60-65 days
Climate: Indoor/Outdoor

GDP is a close relative to Purple Erkle, Grape Ape and many other purple strains created in northern California. The plant is a short bushy indica with heavy branching. GDP is known to be susceptible to spider mites but there are new phenos that have breed this phenotype out. The smoke has a pungent sweet grape aroma and the high is rather clear for an Indica. Granddaddy Purple has taken first prize in The Inglewood Medical Cannabis Cup in 2004, and the Green Cup in 2004, 2005, and 2006.


Evidently ANOTHER of the Cali. MYTHS about availability being limited and any other GDP outside of a certain areas means a strain has to be a fake or a knockoff was created so someone could attempt to claim exclusivity to what they claim to be the one and only true GDP.

For an exclusive regional only strain GDP sure gets around. I just found a couple medicinal marijuana dispensaries in Michigan offering it too .. and like the Cali. info it says Purple Urkle X Big Bud.

The show Mythbusters needs to visit a few Cali. dispensaries and blow the roof off of them by exposing the truth about the inaccurately claimed limited availability and the exclusivity of GDP.

Im from the Bay area where the GDP is the BEST BY FAR..... Love the pics. thats what I use to smoke on a daily basis until moving to LONG BEACH.
