Should it be done? Just started to show preflowers. Using an Aerogarden 3 with some extra CFLs, thought about tossing a blacklight in there but dont know if its a good idea.
Info is appreciated

No. UV light is damaging to the plants and just about all life I think. They use UV light to sterilize medical equipment. Granted commercial black lights aren't as strong as the ones used for sterilizing but it's UV none the less.

a reptile light is a lot better for adding uv light I never heard of using a black light for growing I don't imagine it would be very use full as they don't through very much light although its from a differen't spectrum it might help a little but probally not very noticeable

Black lights will do nothing but waste your time and money when it comes to your grow. Save them for after your harvest.

If I recall correctly HPS emit some light in the UV spectrum anyway?

I remember researching cool tubes before I bought and one of the things I read was that they block the UV created by the HPS lights..

Don't quote me as I am pretty sure I read that on a grow forum :P

luke Yes 12% loss with glass of uv but extended spectrum lamp's such as my lumilux has enhanced blue and uvb....and 145,000 lumen's but I still use 3 27 watt uvb reptile lamp's as an aid to resin prouduction....jack1000watter as high as possible six feet 11 inches!and200 watt's uvb cfl's.jpg4th of july!! 011.jpg4th of july!! 009.jpg

Many moons ago (early 90's?), HightTimes had a small article that suggested the blacklights ended up producing larger, but fluffier buds.

Certainly would like to read that...active spectrum for plant is 400nm to 700nm....black light's are far red..800nm-900nm.....Par photosynthetically active radiation is the only light used in plant growth...so??????290-300nm for resin production UVB...UVA 320-400nm phototropism...(following sun!)...jack......
