thats what everyone says. And also what I believed. But after reading about it , and actually looking at a seed when the root is first coming out. It does look like the seed should be placed root up , as the root looks like its curling down like the post I looked at said.
Dunno , i never put em in exactly perfect anyway. Anything will work really.
Hey fellas,
Pointed end should always be up. You are learning what it took me a while to learn 15-20 yrs ago. Then I had no net & since growing pot was a BIG no no in my small town community, I was very paranoid about trying to find grow books.
When the root tip pops the shell, it ALWAYS grows straight out at 1st. So it seems, "Hey, that end [pointed] should go down!" Doesn't work that way. That's where the confusion comes in. After the tip pops, it won't be much time before it curves BACK toward the fat end. Cannabis seeds ALWAYS do that.
So if the fat end is up, the tap root has to do a 'double take' & do a turn around, because with fat end up, the root is heading toward the surface of the soil, not down into it. That costs a bit of time & plant energy. If the pointed end is up, the seed's root tip can do it's thing uninterrupted. It'll go up for a shot distance, then do it's curve toward the fat end & down into the soil & soon will lift the shell & leaves through the soil.
I have had roots come all the way to the surface of a soil cup or 10 & head back down. Some of the root was exposed to the light, a no no. These took longer for the rest of the seed pod, with the leaves in it, to come to the light. I put a bit of soil on the exposed section of the root & waited. These I only dug up once or twice, as I found there was too much root to make doing the correction myself safe for new sprouted seed.
Sure, they grew out OK in the end, but it took a few days longer & they were not quite as big as their strain siblings, but they were OK. Cannabis is very forgiving. Boy, I needed it a few times...
You can have success doing seeds side ways or fat end up. Sideways is a far second best. But for best, less stressful results? Pointed end always up toward the surface of the soil. Less time wasted & seed energy is saved for growing.
Happy growing! If you disagree, fine. I'm easy. Good fortune to all!
Yers in the green grow,
