Pythium question??

Basicly im in a bit of a pickle

Ive literally got no money available to buy new soil and i need to transplant 2 ladies because the roots have started to peak out of the bottom of the pot

Ive got some old moist soil in the shed thats been there for a while and probably has bugs living in it. I used it for a few seedlings a month ago and all the seedling died from what i assume is pythium (dampened off i think is the term).

Im wondering if i could use this soil for my root bound plants. I was thinking of absolutly drenching the soil in a strong solution of root excelurator, flushing it then using it. I wouldnt really be considering this but i am quite desperate, as i said for the next few weeks I wont have money to buy new soil...

Opinions please????

Apologies in advance if this sounds completely stupid

(
These are autos NL and bubbleicious btw)

Seedlings are far more sensitive than plants that are out growing a pot.

I say pot up with it, cross your fingers tight and hope for the best

Yeh i might have to! gonna leave it a day or two just incase something turns up and i can buy the soil. Im gonna try and 'disinfect' the soil today tho so its ready to go

Don't go too crazy 'disinfecting'
I don't know what you got in mind but keep in mind your plant may not like it ;-)

well i was gonna use a strong solution of root excelurator..leave it for a while then flush it a few times with water? What do you think?

just saw the stuff i used was peat not soil...and it was f*ckin nearly soaking wet(few spiders and woodlice aswell).
No wonder my seedlings rotted away! I only used it for 1 plant so im assuming i carried an infection to the others i germinated?? Or maybe i just over watered them who knows..the rest were fine.

Either way i lost 7 plants and potentially 7oz!

Oh dear it's just peat?
Even your adult plants won't want to be potted up into that. It will be too wet for a start. Then it will drag the PH down too low unless there is lime or something in the mix to bring it up. If it's just peat moss by itself in your shed- I personally would be pretty hesitant to use it unless I had some stuff to amend it (like some perlite for air and lime for ph control)

What size are the pots you are currently using? How big are they and how far along are they?

I mixed perlite and vermiculite with it already approx 40%

the pots are 2 gall and the pots they are in already are also 2 gall, was just gunna stick em on top ald let the roots bury through

But i see what you mean ive flushed em once and its like a swimming pool...might just not bother and wait to get some soil from the shop

Oh and the plants are only 3 weeks old, i see what people mean about auto roots!
