Q: Curing in plastic buckets . . . . :0 A: Usually a no no?

Hi there,

Just wanted to pose a question.
I know plastic buckets are a no no as far as curing in concerned, plastic is the wrong material. Now is it the wrong material to be touching buds? Or is it the wrong material to be sealed in? What I mean is this:

I am running out of my Kilners pretty damn quick, I do have x3 8gal snap seal food grade plastic buckets, if I had access to large glass chemistry lab flasks, could I put my wares in the flasks and then in the buckets to snap shut air tight to start the cure?

I really would appreciate your thoughts on mass curing or alternatives to Kilner Jars (I did have a quick scim through for relevant threads, but could have tried harder, I'll admit!)

Good question. If you ask me there is probably no difference as the plastic is practically airtight. But I haven't tried it so I couldn't tell you what the result will be like.

I asked a very similar question. To this 2 months ago and got 0 answers.... But I've see. Plenty of. Ppl cure I'm totes ... So I'm using homer buckets 5gal w gamma lid seals on them this time... It's just not practical to burp tons of jars every day especially when I work 60 plus hours a week 7 days a week ....

i used 45L plastic totes and f'd up my first dry.

left them 11 days, stems were bendable but made snappy noises when I zip locked them. they're too dry and not curing.

Gutted for yah man, what was it, do you think, that fucked it for you?
Reaction to plastic? Too much volume in one container?
What happened to your bud? Did it rot?

Then I'd imagine there is no air tight seal on a tote no? They're designed for storage and stacking, holes all over the place, no?

Sounds like they dried just too fast maybe? The outside of branches were dry, but the insides still damp . . . . .

Yes we have cured in 50 gallon barrels totes work rather good to you can place some poly over top and then close lid ....DSCF3958.JPG DSCF3929.JPG this will also help sweat out any locked moisture still remaining in them buds Picture 489.jpg

no rot bro, just dried out too much, so no cure gonna happen - dry to touch and 53%RH on the probe inside the bag with all the head colas 8(

Noob failure I guess. Got a few more ounces fresh to keep the smile on my face.

Do i just jar up the dry stuff straight away? or i should i let it sit in the ziplock (but not burp them)

If you have a few fresh leaves from a growing plant, seal a leaf in each jar with the crispy nugs, the moisture from the fresh leaf will, eventually, get absorbed by the over dry buds. No burping ;)

i like darker containers period key is keeping light out as light not increases temps it also degrades THC this is my process we wet trim place on screens let dry for 4 - 5 days temps low 60's dark RH 55- 60 so its slow dry :)
then after 4 - 5 days pending on what outside buds feel like we place them all in garbage bags press out all air twist bags and let sit in dark cool place for 6 - 8 hrs sweating buds ..
This will force all remaining water in bud out
so after 6 - 8 hrs we replace back on screens for 12 - 24 hrs from there there in totes for a few days just burping them and so on then bagged out the door total drying n curing process round 2 weeks from start to out the door
that is really how the pros do it trim for 3 weeks 800 pounds wet keeping each day trim on seperate and marked screens so there is no mixing or fucking up repeating the same process over n over until your done
