Has anyone else had any issues with the 96 leaking like oil from the thermal pad? Noticed spots on the plants but didn't figure it out till plants got pulled and flipped the lights up and heatsink and 96 had a lot oil substance on them.

There are 2 types of pads they were shipping: one is foamlike, other is paperlike.
I used foamlike one, had to remove plastic from both sides, no oil here, but could be a mess if plastic wasn’t removed.

Since they couldn’t bother sending/posting on their website anything that could be confused with instructions, it wouldn’t surprize me what kinds of messes people got themselves into.

The most i have ran is 4 of them on a HLG-600H-54B. On 12\/12 and fan always on them. I have 2 that i have put together but never ran, will have to take them apart and take a look. Actually I need to get with HLG and get some other thermal pads, was a bitch cleaning.

So that would be about 150w max, i call that upper end of cool; and you are running a fan, so even cooler.

Can you see where it’s dripping from?

Is it still doing it, might have been some residual oil from machining?

Why diff? Phadubious asked a question about something not posted. I know you have been reading the thread. Pisses me off having done all the work, people can’t even read the f’king thread, for things already posted.

This is quick and dirty, cuz my test gear is stored, but should be close enuff.

@ ~125w, directly under single 96:
25” ~ 300 ppfd
22” ~ 400 ppfd
18” ~ 500 ppfd
16” ~ 600 ppfd

If you look at the single 96 maps, you can get very close to this by looking at the 120w tables at diff hts. Let me know if you want me to walk you thru it, may save you time in future.

For veg, 300-600ppfd is recommended.
I was going to delete my post. I forgot. Relax Or_Gro. I expected this response hence my post previous to me asking. I did go back and extrapolate from your earlier posts and graphs. It wasn't convenient for me to go back and search, I wasn't on my regular device.

If I need any further assistance I'll be sure to take you up on the offer.

Pretty sure its from the pad. These pics are from one that was only ran for like 10 minutes about 2 months ago. The oil was only around the edges of 96 where pad is, around the whole perimeter of 96.
So i can’t tell whatsup with 2nd one, but can see clear spray on left-center edge of 1st.

Here is the best shot i could get off of one of mine; been runnin 24x7 for about 40 days @ 150w, no fan:

I don’t see any droplets/spray. Haven’t seen any oil droplets on my plants.

Time for some help from @Stephenj37826 ...

Respectfully, I still disagree. I guarantee you can flower with 1 96 on a 240-54a in a 2x4 I don’t need ppfd charts or any charts to prove it. It just won’t cover the 2x4 with an even spread. But when you get more money you can add a second board without upgrading the driver to improve spread.

If you read my original post or know me at all you know I’m not advising this I’m saying it’s not a bad start at all if it’s all you can afford. I run minimum 4 points of light in all my grow spaces personally
I agree with this idea. I was assuming he was looking for optimal and not budget tho. If budget is the case this is a great strategy.

I didn't see any mention of budget concern, what i saw was someone who didn’t want to risk not having enuff light...in fact, he mentioned the alternative he had formerly considered...and it wasn't a “budget” option...three 288s.,,

The alternative to 3 288s is in fact at least two 96s, depending on footprint config...in the case of a 2x4, it is two 96s.

Don’t take it from me, read hlg’s elite 360 flower footprint recco...

Is that b4 or after?
neither. mid way

I had a 3000k rig built up and have been waiting on parts forever. I got sick of waiting and tossed the luminaire part together. The power and control side of things will remain unseen until some parts come that make it look presentable.

I thought 2 things: Beautiful and Airflow

Drivers are remote mounted and I'll be running a multiconductor to both luminaire. If the need arises I'll have the capacity to use a channel for fans. The heatsinks on the boards have full contact with the boards and are just poking out of cutouts in the aluminum panel so it should keep cool.

I reread it and it’s possible you’re right I just assumed that since he wanted to run the boards so hard it was for budget reasons.

But I shouldn’t assume.

Anyways I still stand by what I said.
