Quality not quantity: small yield - high potency

Hi guys, I have only been growing my first plants for a couple of weeks and I am already pretty obsessed with the whole endeavour (I used to think sourdough baking was fun and addictive). Now the dealers where I live in Mexico just sell two types of weed, normal and hydro. Even though I pretty much micro dose and get through under a gram a month, I’ve become a strain geek and I definitely would prefer to be reading all about the different properties and flavors and effects of strains before choosing what to blaze. So the situation is I can get hold of any seed I want through the mail and grow it organically in the Mexican sun, but I can’t buy these mouthwatering next level hybrid strains of weed on the street, so growing my own is a no brainer. But with my low intake it’s likely that I will have more weed than I can smoke if I harvest multiple big plants at the same time. Also I don’t know how well it would keep in a jar in this hot and humid climate with no air con, and I’m not planning on making a business out of this (I’m not about to do a WalterWhite and enter the local drug trade and move in on some narco's turf). So, what I need is to grow a nice plant every 3 or 4 months and just consume from my last harvest. If I only harvest 10g from a plant that’s actually more than enough to see me through until the next harvest, but I do really need it to be quality bud, otherwise what’s the point right? So the question is this: is it feasible to grow a small discrete plant that gives an intentionally modest yield, but ensure the production of some really potent bud?

Large or small... potency comes down to first genetics and then environment.

If genetics is not a question then as long as the roots are healthy and have plenty of room (not root bound) and the plant has all the available nutrients it needs, plus a proper ph (so that nutelock doesnt happen) and it has enough light (and is not harvested too early) .. with that said it doesnr matter If the plant has 1 bud or 100!

I think you should look into auto flowers. They are naturally smaller and yeilds less but they can produce nice flower and can grow in 3 months.
There are ways to keep photoperiod plants smaller using low stress training and limiting factors like pot size but I think autoflowers will work for you.

As was mentioned above, genetics and environment will determine the buds quality.

Normally I'd advise avoiding autos in this situation, but it sounds like your growing outdoors? In which case they may be your best bet, because they will flower without light deprivation. But choose your strain wisely because many actually have a really long growth cycle and can grow quite large.

If you were growing indoors in a tent I'd say just get any feminized photo strain that appeals to you and flip after a short veg period. I just ran a 9 plant SOG in a 32"x32" tent and flipped after 2 weeks. Most of them are going to be done in less than 3 months. Each cola in this picture is an individual plant, and I think one or two of these would ride you over for a good long while.
