Ha I thought it was some crazy new tech, a quantum ballast that creates energetic photons from a vacuum or something. Now I am disappointed. I ain't seen it though mate why's it meant to be better than a Lumatek? Or frankly the Maxibright Pro is dimmable 600/400/250 and has a boost setting for each of those like the Lumatek and most places are doing em on offer at the moment for like £100.
The advertising DOES attempt to create the impression that Quantum ballasts offer something radical, scientific and new BUT, upon closer reading, it's all just vague boasting.
Here's the ebay info:
For sale is my Quantum digital, Dim-able ballast, and brand new 1000w Sunmaster dual spectrum bulb, any questions please feel free to ask
he Quantum Series ballast offers you a dimming switch that enables you to run your ballast at the strength you desire. This not only makes it easier to harden off young plants just being introduced to HID lighting, but also allows you to control your footprint and power usage as well. You can increase the power to your ballast as your garden grows and demands more light, and save yourself a substantial amount of money on your power bill over the length of your crop cycle.
Run at 100%, 75% or 50% power
Strike both Metal Halide and High Pressure Sodium Bulbs
Accepts 120v or 240v (Both cords included)
Allows 50 Hertz to 60 Hertz
Runs 15% cooler than other digital ballasts on the market
Has a Power Factor of 99.9%
The most stable output frequency of any ballast
Higher lumen output than magnetic ballasts
Light weight and care free
Another key point of these ballasts' is they have no dedicated voltage. Switching between 120v and 240v is as easy as changing the power cords. Both, of course, are included with your ballast. There is no need to purchase any additional equipment or change any wiring.
Heat has always been the enemy of any gardening situation. Quantum has designed the ballast with a resin cased circuit board that has been placed in conjunction with a sealed bearing fan. This combines the best of both worlds with the end result being a ballast that runs 15% cooler than any other digital ballast available. As with all electronics, the cooler they run, the longer they will last.
The Quantum Series Lighting is the only ballast that is fully compliant with Part 18 of FCC rules and regulations. This device has gone through rigorous testing in lab facilities that replicate the most extreme atmospheric conditions. This ballast can withstand the high heat and humidity that any garden can throw at it.
The world of indoor gardening was changed forever with the introduction of digital lighting. A new alternative to heavy, noisy, power wasting core and coil ballasts had reached our shores. Like everything new and exciting there is a downside. Many companies eagerly came out with technology too quick that has not been tested in real life gardens. Many of these ballasts cannot stand up to the atmospheric demands that gardeners put on their equipment. This has led to high failure rates amongst our competitors. These failures include RF (radio frequency) interference, burnt circuit boards, and faulty cord ends.
Finally, the world of digital lighting is about to change in a big way. Quantum Series Lighting is now the paradigm of lighting technology. Quantum Horticulture analyzed the mistakes and failures made by others in their quest for digital lighting, and utilized that knowledge to bring us the best in high intensity illumination.
