Quantum board questions

Hello everyone,

Cannot find precise information I need on the forum.

Will be getting an ELG Mean Well-240-42A range via potentiometer is 2.85a to 5.7a, is it possible to run 2 boards at the minimum 2.85a, each board getting around 1.40a?

Can I extend the 2 strand connection (red /black) leads between the driver and WAGOs using a connector /2 strand cable to a length 2 or 3m (6ft)? I prefer to keep the driver outside my tent.

Is 3500k spectrum suitable from start to finish? Just your options.

Thanks

1. Every light I've seen uses a constant current driver. I wouldn't trust dimming current that much to a $1 pot, if it fails your lights will split the full current load the driver is capable of.

4. Yes. I've seen many people use 3500k seed to harvest and be quite happy with it.

2 & 3
Like this? 1 power cord and 1 dimmer for 2 drivers. So each dimmer controls 8 panels.
Used 14/2 romex and pulled out the middle ground wire to make it a bit more flexible. Each panel set has around 10ft of wire. Just make sure all your wire and components are rated for the voltage and current.

ahh I get what youre talking about now, I confuse myself sometimes with the A and B versions.

I think you need to get the 48A/54A not the 42A
im assuming youre using 288 boards? The V1 has a 45v min and the V2 a 47v min

The most commonly used driver for that setup would be a HLG-240H-C2100A and wire the boards in series. theyre $20-30 cheaper too.

and each set has around 10 feet of cable

No that driver outputs to much current and not enough fv.

Yes but use a higher gauge wire 16awg.

Yes.

Wagos should only be used inside a project box, they offer no cable strain relief and never use them on the dc side. Above is a good example of how not to wire your lights. Messy wire cause fires. Do it proper. No offence to the poster I've seen worse. :)

I plan to solder all of the outside connections together and pin the wires up, its in a together to make sure it works, but not quite done stage. Will be taking care of it all in the next few days actually. Ive been avoiding it because I have to put in slightly longer pieces from the drivers to clean it up and get it safe.

I've seen plenty of builds with wagos at the panel or strip. I played with them quite a bit before I put everything together as I was unsure of them myself. They have a lot of bite on them, I wasnt able to pull 14awg wire out of them when they're locked, they dont open easy enough to get opened by mistake. I don't see an issue using them at each panel as thats the only place they'll be and everything will be closed up. Even planning on putting shrink tube around them. If there's some other reason, i've missed it so please do elaborate on the DC side thing.

I too would like to know why you shouldn't use them on the DC side. As that is what comes in most kits for connecting wires that I have seen.

Thanks everyone, the boards I may get are from a company in Germany called Led Tech De, the boards are called ZEUS 308 XT.
They recommend pararallel wiring and the driver probably because that’s what they have in stock.
Don't not know anything about the technical side, but if you google the company or boards someone maybe able to help.

What I meant, Boards and WAGOs (20inch wires between them, pararllel wiring) both in the tent, then a 6ft cable to the Meanwell driver outside the tent.

When i sae the mention of 42V driver i knew you were getting the Zeus. Nice looking board but i hate the voltage. You should be able to wire for remote balast with no problem. Asfaik having extra cable between your driver and board adds a little bit of voltage to the whole setup, how much depending on the thickness of the wire. That board only goes up to around 40V at max current so you have plenty of extra voltage for remote wiring.

Thanks for checking rocket soul/ fragileassassin any recommendations on any other boards or company, I'm in the UK.
Grow tent size is 80x80x180cm roughly 2.6 x 2.6 x 5.9 feet.

I answered this a few days ago in this thread here, towards the bottom.

they have a range of 37.21v (700ma) to 39.8v (3500ma)
thats not a big window.
The annoying thing is that its just over 36 and its hard to find 40V drivers.

For that space 2 boards, any boards really, at around 200w should be fine. You would probably need a driver that can dim it a lot lower cause 200w would be a lot of light with these new boards.

I like the large size of the boards and that there's no heatsink required, for some reason they advise not to use a resistor. I will look at other companies as well. Thank you

Not sure if this is the best place to ask my question but here we go :)

I just placed my new Quantum Board QB304 dual board kit above my seedling and am hoping I can get a bit of advice about distance and intensity. I don't want to burn her but I want to keep the light as close as I can...staying aggressive. This is the 4000K version btw...

I'm using the HLG-240H-C2100A driver at it's stock settings and the 2 boards are drawing 226 watts at the wall. I have the light 32" above the plant and my lux meter is showing 150 at the top of plant. Canopy temp is 77. RH is low 50's. Plant is from seed and was planted 20 days ago. Here are some pics of my setup. I'm hoping you Quantum Board experts can help me out :)

Suggested distance, or even better, suggested value on my lux meter would be much appreciated.
