quantum vs. lumatek

So what do you guys think? Are the lumateks that much better to justify the extra expense?

all i've ever used is lumatek, so i can't help with your comparison. but, i can tell you i've had and have, 400's and 1000 watters, and had zero problems with them....

I've had 400 and 600 LUMATEKS.

Both were bomb proof IMO.

Used a 600 lumatek for 2 years no issues and a 400 for 2 years no issues.

Cool running ballasts, no internal fan to stop working and fry stuff, Super lumen feature along with dimmable multiwatt switch.



Great ballast to be fair, at least on 240v anyway.

I ran 1000w quantums on a 120 volt for 4 years and not a single issue. Their ballast stayed cooler than lumateks and Quantum has a 3 year warranty. Hydrofarm owns quantum now. They bought them from discount hydro a few months ago.

me and a friend both rock Lumateks, he used to have a quantum. all our Ballasts run on 120v.
we have kinda unstable power here, it goes out probably atleast once a month in the winter. after one of these "power bumps" buddy went to check on his tent, which at the time had a lumatek and a quantum running side-by-side. the lumatek was running fine, the Quantum was DEAD.

initial inspection showed no problems, changed the bulb, still no-go.

checked the fuse. WTF. it is a 240v fuse! on a switchable ballast desinged to run on EITHER 120v or 240v input!
it has only one fuse, and a replacement in a little hidey-hole beside the active one. swapped them, both were identical, 240v.
im no expert, but wouldnt a 240v fuse be absolutley USELESS at preventing a surge when running on 120v?

this is the first time i have shared this, so any input is welcome.

other then that (together) we now are running 4 Lumateks and a chinese knock off. the Lumateks seem to handle the power bumps like a boss. i recommend them

being that r and m supplies just got bought out by hydrofarm, UNLESS HF is continuing the quantum line, I wouldn't buy anything that didn't have a supplier to back the warranty. so lumatek is the easy answer.

I run lumatec on my personal grow without any problems. All grow-ops(that I know of) that are serious about production run superace.

Led is the way to go they have 5 watt diodes now and check out the grows online unreal. depends on grow room size to use 1 watt/3 watt/5 watt diodes. the money you save in electric will be huge with led and you will have fatter yields. and led's keep you off radar allot better.

I have tried the blackstar 240's and was less than impressed.

Lumatek is nice but I prefer Hortilux Platinum LF Square Wave

These guys did a test with a bunch of the top brands, lumatek came in second and quantam came in fifth (out of ten), but they werent drastically different, so theyre both solid Id say. Ive been using lumateks for a while and have no complaints.

I heard HF is not honoring returns if manufacture date is before they took over or something wierd like that. I'd check to make sure your store is going to honor your return in case they get screwed by Hydrofarm...

Ill say Lumatek. No fan model.

Fan is a weak link.
